National Junior College (Junior High)

It's true there is no swimming CCA but for PE they do share the pool with Hwa Choong Inst. Any credentials and achievements should help in DSA application.
Try out the ability test which should be anytime soon and if score is high enough will be contacted for phase 2a and b. Phase 2a will be activity and 2b will be the interview. DSA in NJC is very competitive. NJC takes in the top 5% in sec.1 posting but DSA will be much tougher than normal posting in academic and CCA.In 2011 only about 30+ students in my own estimate, were taken in even though about 190 must have qualified in the higher ability test which is the top 2% from what I hear. Nothing like taking the challenge and going for it, all to gain and nothing to lose maybe just the $50.The last open house was in April and you may call the office and find out the next one.Usually after the DSA they should have another one lined up.Hope this helps.Cheers! -
Thank you very much. Dr K.

DD is wondering, in that case, there will be no swimming team in NJC? she is active in interschool and national age group competition, does it mean that she will not represent school? :skeptical: -
Hello everybody! I am from National Junior College, currently in Junior High 1 (JH1) or what NJ calls Sec 1. I see lots of misconceptions here, but well, I can address them.
1) Yes, there will be a boarding programme for all JH students (S1-S4). For JH1s, it will be in Term 4 so I will not be able to provide as much details. The boarding school is newly built and is located just right beside the school. There will also be a formal dinner where students will be taught dining etiquette and girls will have to wear semi-formal dresses and boys will have to wear ties.
2) As for the CCAs, during the one-week orientation period, we got to experience the niche CCAs for about 15 mins. Then, the CCA teachers will pick out the talented ones and ask if you’re interested in joining the CCA. You will also choose your basic CAFE one each for performing arts and sports CCA. You will do each for one term. Next, you can choose one CCA (need not be basic cafe) to be advanced CAFE. This will most probably be your final CCA, unless you’re accepted for another one. CAFE is a unique program for NJ that allows NJCians to experience the various CCAs first.
3) The school uses Grade Point Average (GPA). The co-curriculum includes Drama-in-production [1 credit] and Basic Cafe [1 credit each] and Advanced Cafe [2 credits.
4) The curriculum includes
LA-language arts
IS-integrated sciences
IH-integrated humanities
HMT-all students are required to take HMT. However, judging from the semester 1 results, students may opt for MT with recommendation from MT teachers. Only HMT classes are banded, well, only chinese because malay and tamil students are placed in one class.
MA-Mathematics
GA-general arts
TK-thinking
Not graded:
PD-personal development
Leadership
5) Was laughing at this…
Each class only have 24 students. And here goes…only 6 boys in every class. The ratio follows throughout. i’m part of the majority. we are sitted in round tables, 3 girls to one boy.
Ya…I am only in JH1, so may not be able to tell you alot but lemme tell you, LA was difficult initially. -

Er... you mean you didn't know this? No need to be so \"kuai\" to sit 1 boy to 3 girls at each table lah. I think by 2nd half of the year, it might change. I remember my boy saying that the girls were so noisy, that he just packed up his things with the other boys and sat in front at a table by themselves so they could concentrate on the lessons.

BTW, I don't see any misconceptions discussed?
The only difference this year from our children's year is the slight changes made to the CAFE programme, that's all. -

I just received the email from NJC. DSA under swimming is not considered. Looks like we have to give NJC DSA a miss. Best to ALL! -
Hi,
Allow me to share. My DD is doing her 1st year in JH - Junior High at NJC. She is enjoying herself. NJC provides an all rounded environment, with emphasis on both academic and sports.
The kids are given the opportunity to experience various sports. Orientation was exciting which encompass canoeing/dragon boat and outdoor activities. So far, they have road run, and even experience Funtasia ( food and fun fair).
Overall,it is a great experience at NJC.
