Hi, can anyone help me with this question? Thks

Lily would like to cut out as many isosceles triangles of the same shape and size from a rectangular piece of paper shown length 29cm and breath 14cm. Each isosceles triangle should have a base of 6cm and a height of 4 cm. What is the maximum number of isosceles triangles she can cut ?

My apologies, I could not draw the intended rectangle and isosceles triangle.
      Hi

      Hope this helps.

      Best wishes

        Hi

May I know the source of this question ? What is the given answer ?
Personally, I think this question is beyond the scope of P5/P6. It is more likely a MO question.

        My answer is 28

        cheers.

        Hi MathIzzzfun,

        That was my gal's SA1 maths question. The ans is 24. The workout given as 4 x 3 x 2 = 24. I don't get the \" x 2\" part ??[/quote]Hi

I have attached the solution to obtain 28 triangles. To get this, one needs to know pythagorus theorem and similar triangles.

        cheers.

u r welcome. The question was not set properly, and certainly 24 triangles cannot be the answer.

I just realized that using the configuration of triangle 9,10,11 above, I could fit in one more ie total 29.

              Here's the 29 triangles configuration:

                Hi parents

Could you help to solve this maths question? Thanks.

Pupil B, J and A shared some money. The ratio of B’s money to the total of J’s and A’s money is 4:9. A’s share was 6 times J’s. B had $95 more than J. How much money had A?

Q: Ben bought 2 sacks of flour, sack A and sack B. They had a total mass of 440 kg. Ben then poured 1/3 of the flour from sack A to sack B. Then he poured 1/3 of flour from sack B to sack A. As a result both sacks had the same amount of flour. How much flour was there in sack A at first.

                        Hi

You may use MD or work using units.

                        B:(J+A) -------- 4:9 -------- 28:63

                        A:J -------- 6:1 (7) -------- 54:9 (63)

Make the total units for (J+A) the same.

                        28 – 9 ------- 19

                        19 units ------- 95

                        1 unit ------- 5

                        A -------- 54*5 ------- 270

                        Best wishes
