Hello, we live 1 - 2km from Haig Girls (my second choice) and >2km from CHIJ Katong (my first choice). We are Singaporeans but since my husband and i did not grow up here, we are only eligible for 2C (our son goes to St Stephens) Can i take the risk of going to CHIJ? or should i go straight to Haig Girls’? Please advice as i am clueless with the registration system and don’t want to jeopardize my daughter’s education!

You may like to monitor the registration status of the two schools and decide on the third day which school you should go for. -
This is what i have been advised by some, to monitor, then register on the third day as school would be in a better position to tell me if they are likely to ballot. They say it is not "first come, first serve" basis within the three days, is this true?
-
It’s true, else there won’t be a need for balloting system.
The places will just go to those at the head of the queue.
Then we will see queues forming a week before registration! -
LOL! True didn't think of that! Flashback to newspaper article on pregnant parents queing up for Kindergarten registration!
Will follow advice and monitor, thank you! -

2011 balloting results
CHIJ Katong > 2km: high risk.

Haig Girls safer, easier to get in

Just a word of advise. I also did that last year when I register my dd and thought that I have a good chance of getting in without balloting as I monitored the number before I register. Went to register at 2pm. To my surprise, many parents appeared after 3pm resulting in a 50% overshot. We have no choice but to go for ballot as there was too little time to travel to another school and very disappointed we did not make it in the ballot. Chance wasted.Indian mother of two:
