Can anyone share what do they test in LP placement test? Are they difficult? What are the type of questions covered? Is it easy to pass?
for Learning Point (Thomson) branch, for entry into K2 level:-
i) if your child had started originally from K1 level at LP and now join K2, no need to take any test -
since it's a natural progression within the centre, from K1 going up K2.
ii) but if your child from external / outside is new and tries to join LP at K2 level, staff will test / assess your child whether he is suitable to join their programme.
Tests involved:-

i) ask your child read a few pages from a storybook (they provide).
purpose: Test whether your child can read or not. If can read, is the child's reading fluent or not ?
before your child takes the test, the staff normally ask parent first:-
is your child able to read up to \"Peter & Jane\" - around at least level 10, before taking their tests ?
when i heard level 10 from P&J, i was slightly ... taken aback.
To me, level 10 is rather ... deep. However, maybe because LP K1 reading program train their kids read Ladybird series young, so by end of K1, perhaps the kids there could have been reading well.
ii) after reading, staff ask the child some questions about the story he had just read.
purpose: tests Comprehension skill.
reason: some kids can read, but may not understand / comprehend what he had just read. Comprehension is one level higher up above reading, as it involve(s) higher order thinking.
iii) after Comprehension, ask the child to write out the answer(s) in complete, full sentence(s). The child is expected to write in proper, complete sentences. Every sentence must start with a capital letter, and end with a full stop.
purpose: test a child's Motor skill(s), whether the child is able to write properly.
class size:-
max kids for Learning Point (K2) class = 10 (under 1 Teacher),
unlike TAS (max: 16 - under 1 Teacher + 1 assistant)
To me, class size is important.
Some kids (those self motivated type) can listen & pay attention to teacher in class, even though class may be big. However, that're some kids that need smaller class size group, esp. those that have short attention span, or those playful type, or those that've some learning attitude issue(s). I suppose it depends on individual child. Parents know their child best.

what i described was ... entry level assessment into K2 level only, to assess if your child is suitable for their K2 programme, at Learning Point.
i am not sure about entry tests for P1 to P6.
what level is your child entering into, Mimama ?

Yes, for P2 / P3, the kid will be required to do a simple test paper (grammar, vocab) with a compre passage, and write a short compo.Mimama:

No, she is not with LP. Still in the midst of evaluating appropriate centre. -

They will usually ask you for the preferred slot. If it is available, they will put your child’s name in that slot to reserve it while he / she sits for the placement test. It doesn’t have to be at the end of the year as long as there are available slots in that class. hth

Do you see any improvement in your child's English written skill(s) todate ?
heard that P1 / P2 LP programme focus 50 % of her bulk on creative writing composition.
the remaining 50 % focus on compreh, grammar, cloze & oral.

for admission -
all outsider candidates are required to take an entry assessment test, to assess your child's English proficiency level, about 45 minutes to 1 hour - test your child readiness on:-
grammar, cloze passage(s), compreh and compo. Make sure you prepare you child or else you have to try 6 mths later.
LP (Thomson Plaza) is open from Mon - Sat.
LP (Simei) is closed on Mon, open from Tue - Sat.
both branches are closed on Sun, Public holiday(s).
perhaps due to recent MOE announcement on new changes to 2015 PSLE English language paper -
LP noted a surprise surge or an increase in demand in the number of 2013 P1 classes, as compared to previous past years. Many parents keen to lay a strong foundation, the earlier the better, instead of nearing towards P5 / P6. -
parents staying in the east, may take note of changes:-
next year around Feb 2013 -
Learning Point (Simei) branch will be shifting to Parkway Centre building (ie. Macdonald building, in Marine Parade). Parkway Centre is a busy, bustling booming place! Each and every floor has so many enrichment centre(s) housed in that tall building. Tao Nan SAP school, Ngee Ann, CHIJ Katong Convent, TKPS, Haig Girls, etc. are nearby around Katong, Joo Chiat area.
Learning Point will shift together with her sister school, \"Hua Cheng Chinese Education centre\". They are owned by the same owner.
