A lot of hardwork required if need to improve S&T , listening and reading. Nowaday not only children need to work hard, parents too.timtim:
Not only Listening, there's Reading, S&T and Compo Writing. Fortunately the weightage is same or lower than mastery tests, but if performed badly, it will still affect the overall marks significantly.
by the way i saw a lot of children going to school these few days. Tot school holidays, wonder y so many children still go to school -
timtim:
Thanks timtim for the information. I hope that there is some sort of standardisation done across the classes since the assignment of marks for S&T/Reading can really be subjective.Weemy:
Does anyone know how the Primary 1 EL First Combined Mark (on the report book) is calculated? What components are taken into account? I am quite surprised by my child's EL mark. My child did not do too badly in his written tests and so it seems that the Reading/S&T assessments have pulled down my child's mark considerably ~ according to the rubrics, my child scored \"Good\" (2nd column).
The weightage (in %) for the rubrics assessments to the term's percentage is not made known unlike last year, so it's not possible for us to work out unless teacher revealed the marks of individual components to parents and how they \"convert\" rubrics to marks. Not to mention those with rubrics, parents are not even told of kids performance in listening, let alone letting us know the weightage and hence marks. In most cases, it's usually the rubrics that pulled the marks southwards. -

For your info, P1 students will be introduced to Model drawing for Maths in Term 4.
I send my girl for preparatory class for maths and english at K1 plus her childcare also taught P1 stufs for both maths and english. Basically she knows the concepts quite well except for things like more than ,less than etc. Normally i will teach her night time on the concepts which she is weak in but because her foundation is good, so quite easy to teach her. Also her classmates quite a few got full marks, so she is working towards getting full marks too. Weekdays i normally will get her to do a few pages of the maths from assignment books when it comes to test, normally i dun prepare with her, let her be.
She still have maths tution now but her tutition teacher is starting to teach her all the model methods, more like P2 stuffs cos all the P1 stuffs, her teacher has covered everything at K2 -

wow term 4? cos i saw in her maths 1b textbook , nothing on model drawing loh so i thought in P2. Her tutition teacher says it depends on the schools cos some introduced in last term P1 some in P2. At least my girl can have some ideas on how to do. Cos i have no time to spare to teach her, need to spend all my energy on my younger child

P5 & P6 students have to go back to school on the first week of school holidays. Those weaker P6 students will have to go back for 2 weeks. That go to most of the Pri school. Nowadays, it is not so easy to be students.timtim:

The holiday schooling hours is almost the same as normal school days, from 8am to 12.30pm. The kids have to go back to school for a week or two. Their june holidays has been shorten in a way. -
