School Examinations Too Difficult

Hi champion,
It's tough enough dealing with a year-end child...fact is that some kids are just 6 when they are in P1 and 7 in P2. How can they be expected to be on par with those who were born at least 6 months earlier?
Last night, my son asked me something about math...told him to approach daddy. I cannot help...although it sounds somewhat familiar :rotflmao:
2 nights ago, father and daughter were having squabble when junior was told to learn 2/3 times table. I :siam: to kitchen. -
the crazy Maths qns set making us parents all stressed up …
i eat chicken feet (brewedmany hours in soup), but i never bother to count howmany chicken leg / feet i’d eaten. -

Year-end kids can shine too. Be patient cos sometimes they just need a little more time to catch up. We tend to be too stressed & pushed them when they are not ready yet. DD is a last-day year-end child (actually I had to cesarean her 2.5 weeks early so she end up starting her life one year early).
Her early years looked 'dim & slow' - compared to peers & one-yr older brother. Now she has definitely caught up. She can still be quite childish but I find her cute (cos chubby mah
) & I let her be cos she probably has ~1yr less playtime?!?! With your dedication, your DD will catch up. :love:
Actually on hindsight, it could be a blessing in disguise when she started in a rather lousy neighborhood primary school. Sch was rather relax & easy from P1-P3. She had lotsa time to play (hardly any Sch work every day) & no tuition except Berries & Piano. She was a late starter in reading - at 7 (this is my only regret. I believe it's important to read from young). In her new Sch, life is different now......do pity her. The workload is equivalent to her P6 brother. But by now, I believe they are ready for more hardship. Most important, do their best :). -
Just need to know plus, minus, times and divide. The rest get use the computer, calculator to do. Oh ya, also algebra formula and simultaneous equations is good to know, help solve practical problems. Also must know how to count money and do foreign exchange conversion.
Other than that, what other Maths you need in life…??? -

I love to read newspapers and magazines...but don't know why these 2 fellas do not. My son in P6 literally skims through when I get him to read a book. Now, he has difficulty with comprehension passages :slapshead:
As for my daughter, I get her to sit beside me when I read newspapers. This way, I tell her what I am reading.
To me, Math is to know how to count money & compare prices ( :oops: typical housewife). Addition, subtraction and converting currency is the job of calculator.
Her school system is rather patient, although teacher has taught stuff like Models, heuristic and the English standard is more demanding. She needs constant refreshment before we can move on...her teacher said we just have to work hand in hand to get her through. Cant rush. This year, the focus is totally on her. Hope she improves in memory and learning to pass all her subjects at the end of this year. -

I'm stress with his attitude before and his childish way too when all his friend were more mature. Not blaming on him, its just that he is born year end and I've to accept it and do my best for him. Seeking his cooperation is already a very tough job. :rant:
Always been complain by teachers for his follies since his kindergarten days till now. Even the parent and grandparents of his classmates gave me angry faces as though I the one who had spoilt him. Sometimes, feel like crying but no choice, had to face reality and do whatever I can to guide him.
Though he is a headache, I still love him and its still my responsibility to help him grow into a upright and mature person. :hi5: -
Some people do not believe in this ‘year end child’ being slower. But that is a fact. While other kids born in Jan or Apr are already drinking milk or solids, my gal wasn’t even born. My daughter is the ‘baby’ in class. She is cute and childish…thank goodness she is a girl. But I know schools are not very forgiving and most aim to look at overall.

MOE don’t care whether child is born beginning of year or end of year.
So long as child is born within that year, all will study in that same level. -

Whether born beginning or year end, we parents need to guide our child to brace and face whatever that is ahead. Of course, if born beginning of the year is much better and an easier job too! Also, find that girls are much easier to manage than boys. Boys have too much energy in them.
