The police are investigating the death of a toddler who fell off the balcony of a condominium in Upper Bukit Timah on Friday evening.

The two-year-old boy was believed to have been at home with his family's foreign domestic worker when he fell from the balcony of a fourth-floor unit of Hillview Green condo in Hume Avenue.

The article also says that the balconey wall is high. So how did the 2 year old get up there? I can't help but be suspicious.

Really sad. A young life just gone.

When maids fall, it is the employer’s fault.
Let’s see what the investigation turns out

Heard on tv news about 1st batch of Indon maids headed to Malaysia since the ban. They are not obliged to look after children or old folks!!! :siao:

Wouldn't the demand for maids be mainly from families with children or old folks?

Then just simple don't get any Indonesian helper then... if the government will not hear us despite the constant bombarding over Facebook or email, then we can just start from ourselves. Look for other nationality! Filipinas are the best due to good English speaking skills... I wonder when will the Government allow mainland China women to work as helpers here?

the nationalities need to be approved by the Ministry of Maids

It really would be nice if employers can collectively not take Indonesian Maids if the conditions for employing them is really ridiculous.

The authorities are of no help. They shy away (read the various posts here to find out their \"willingness\" to help) when there are issues to be resolved. The agents too take advantage of employers. The other related costs in hiring a maid too are ridiculous and instead of thinking what they can do, we have some employers speaking in defense of them!

Incidentally, Filipinas may have good English speaking skills but I am not sure that equates to them being the best.

😓 🙏 we need more source countries ... up to Ministry of Maids to endorse and push agencies to recruit. :xedfingers:
Thailand is one of the source countries but I don't see many working as FDWs in Sg .... 🤷 They are Buddhist and seems like can 'click' with me ... main thing, I like Thai food :please:

MOM bans maids from cleaning window exteriors unless supervised
With immediate effect, maids will not be allowed to clean the window exteriors of high-rise HDB flats or apartments unless supervised.

The next ban will be can't use bamboo, stretch out body to hang wet laundry?? Employer paid more these days but end up got to do chores for FDWs. No more time to rest, after work must hang own laundry .... 可怜可悲的新加坡人!
                        雇主真好坑!!
                        政府人员与机构真好命 - 利益好处得来全不必付出代价
                        羊毛出在雇主身上

The various ministries are good at hitting singaporeans with penalities. Another good way to make govt rich. Even maid runaway, the security bond MOM forfeits is only s$2500 .... quoted from MOM. Really not too much in govt eyes but a lot to us

If you've a better option, irregardless of nationalities, FDWs are not really a good choice. Hiring FDW is like donating money to govt, agencies, embasssies and training centres.... with Indonesians the top :moneyflies:

By MOM work permit, a FDW is your responsibility till the day she departs, 24/7, even she's with agency or shelter, your liability hasn't ended!! :stompfeet:
