      Hi,

I’m an SC. My gg will be enrolling in P1 next yr. Our mother tongue is Tamil. I was wondering if I should try for Nanyang Pri even though it does not cater to Tamil as a 2nd language. What are my chances of getting in, not taking into account the balloting requirements? Even if she takes Chinese as a 2nd language, will the school cater for her to take Tamil as a 2nd or 3rd language?

Any experience from parents in the same dilemma?

      Thanks.

How far is your home from NYPS? How far are you from RGPS?

RGPS offers Tamil for mother tongue, and if you are within 1km of
both RGPS and NYPS, you most likely have a better chance of entering RGPS
        than NYPS.

          Hi,

I'm within 1-2km of both NYPS and RGPS. :gloomy:

          Thanks

            Hi,

Under Ph1 and Ph2A this year, will siblings of PR be given equal priority as SC or will SC get priority over PR in all phases? Case in point, will a sibling of a PR at Ph1 or P2A still get higher priority over a SC applying at Ph2B or Ph2C this year?

            Thanks

Application under Phase 1 is guaranteed, hence, this issue shouldn't surface.

In subsequent phases, where demand outstrips supply, the new ruling will set in.

                Hi
Which phase will you be registering in?

If under 2B, almost no chance for NYPS as most will shift to within 1km this yr, but there is still some chances for balloting for RGPS.
If under 2C, totally zero chance of even registering for NYPS. For RGPS, very risky too.
All schools along Bukit Timah, except Bukit Timah Primary are 100% subscribed by those within 1km for Phase 2C last year.

We are considering moving to within 1km of NYPS now to get my daughter into the school. We will have to do it now since registration takes place next month (stressed!). Even then, we can only qualify for phase 2C. Would it be worth the while since with the new priority given to Singaporeans, we might stand a higher chance this year?

The thing is, by doing this, we will give up our chance for registering her in Phase 2B for CHIJ QLOP (we live within 1km). I think we are certain to get her into CHIJ QLOP but I prefer NYPS.

We have a younger daughter and they are both Singaporeans.

I’m getting really stressed and have been going back and forth about this. Help!

                    Hi,

I'm late for late for Ph2B. Would be looking at Ph2C at RGPS. I would like to get into NYPS though.

I'm waiting to see how this year's intake is affected by the new SC priority ruling. It's a boon for SC in the future as the number of PRs in Ph1 and Ph2A comes down after all the siblings of PR have registered under Ph 1 and Ph2A in the next few years. This is not going to help me much for now.

                    Thanks.

It may be wiser to rent a place near NYPS first instead of buying, just in case you can't get into NYPS. Buy only after you get in.

Since you have 2 daughters, have you thought of trying for RGPS instead? The competition may be lesser there.

Thank you cherrygal. Yes, it looks like we should rent. Otherwise we won’t make it for the July deadline. The thing is, once we change our address to be near NYPS, we will have to give up being close to CHIJ QLOP. We might end up not having a place in either school!

I prefer NYPS to RGPS because my impression (and I could be wrong) is that NYPS is more well rounded.
