We are staying within 2km of RGPS, NYPS, HPPS and FMPS.
Which school has the highest chance?

I think not much help with new policy as many PR would have got in through Phrase 1. :sigh:

If you are talking about Phase 2C,
NYPS - no chance
RGPS - not much chance, must observe no. of vacancies
HPPS - Slight chance, must observe no. of vacancies
Fairfield - Good chance

The sad reality is that no matter what I do now, my daughter is not likely to get into the school that I feel is the best fit for her (NYPS).

Erm, in fact, if we had our way, EVERY parent here thinks NYPS is the best fit for their kid... we gotta live with the best option we can get. Hence CHIJ OLQP doesn't seem like a bad choice afterall.

1) Mission school - values, arts, good in English
2) Same gender - less distractions in upper primary
3) Has affiliated secondary school
4) Best of all, no need to move house!

Think what cherrygal said is true. I have a friend who was balloted out of a popular sch, she was very upset and in the end registered at a not-so-popular neighbourhood sch with affiliation. Even then, she had second thoughts and wanted to register instead at the popular neighbourhood sch. In the end, she stayed with the not-so-popular one.


Saw her recently, she was gushing about how great the school was and how happy her ds was. I was like… okay, but you didn’t like the sch, and she replied that she had changed her mind! Anyway, I’m glad that she is happy.

Yes, it’s not how fast you start in a race… it’s about reaching the end point with flying colours.


Primary school is six long years. I heard of kids who get into top schools and pull out 2 years later coz they can’t keep up (yes the principals of top schools have quotas and will kick the under-performers out). My cousin was an example.

It’s sometimes better to be the cream of the crop than to be stuck at the bottom of the pit. Self-esteem may take a beating.

Anyway, even if you enter a not so popular school, get your kid to perform well and use her exceptional grades to appeal for transfer. Sometimes these schools will take in "proven to be bright" kids. Go to "All About Transferring Your Kid to Another School" thread.

Why do say HPPS is slight chance and Fairfield is not so good chance. Does that mean the competition is fiercer in Fairfield than HPPS for Ph2C balloting?

OK, you are exceptional and not like the majority... [/quote]NYPS also not my first choice. I have friends who tried all means to register their children in the top schools but in the end, the kids didn't like it and couldn't perform.

For NYPS, IMPO, besides the popular, famous and rich parents they have, it's just like many other schools if you are talking about the mainstreamers. When I register my DS for primary school last year, I was focusing more about character development and one who can give good chinese foundation. Of course, a mission school is preferred as we are Christians. To satisfy the above, it has to be a SAP school. Thus, we choose PHPPS. Yes, DS got in through balloting and we are relieved cos that also means my DS won't have problem with his children next time since it's a co-ed school (if the priority is the same as now).

On a separate note, can parents here comment on the experience they had with RGPS, HPPS, Fairfield, MGS and SCGS? In terms of curriculum, teaching methods etc. I don’t want my kids to end up in a popular school just becoz’ it’s popular.

I had a difficult time trying to get the PSLE and P1 registration statistics for the above schools for the past few years? Can someone direct me to where I can get it?
