What is included in the P3 Science Pratical Asseement for the coming 2nd half year? How is it conducted? How do I help my child? Thank you.

Hi, do insects go through internal or external fertilisation?

Pls provide some examples and let me know if there are any exceptions to the rule.

          Thanks very much!

Hi! May I ask which assessment book or school past year paper did you get this question? ๐Ÿ˜„

Don't remember seeing or reading this part of notes in any of the guide books (maybe I am a slow reader  ) but in my opinion, I would think that insects go through internal fertilisation as insects have embryonic development within a waterproof egg.

            Life cycle of an insect:
An insect goes through several stages of development in its life cycle.
Metamorphosis refers to the way insects develop, grow and change their forms.
There are 2 types - incomplete (3-stage life cycle e.g. Grasshopper) and complete (4-stage life cycle e.g. Mealworm).

Hi Champion,I did not get this question anywhere. I happened to see the term \"internal fertilisaton of eggs\" as one of the options provided in an MCQ Science question (Lower Block) and I got to wondering what is this internal/external fertilisation thingy.I googled it and these terms exist but the info was too messy and haphazard so I decided to ask the in-house experts here ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyone out there who can enlighten me further, please do so.
              Thanks very much!

                Hi Champion,

Can you explain a little more about the complete vs incomplete metamorphosis of insects? I have not come across these terms.

                Thanks! ๐Ÿ˜‚

                  Hi! Hi! ๐Ÿ˜„
Me too - I first came across this term in my DD1's tuition class note last year when she was in P3. Thereafter read out the notes from the following guide book:-
Primary 3/4 Lower Block Everything You Need To Know About Science [Paperback]
                  https://www.popular.com.sg/jsp/product/product_detail.jsp?vca001=265&vpd001=97100#
                  http://i46.tinypic.com/2cqb440.jpg\">

                  Extract from page 209,
                  Life Cycle of an Insect
An insect goes through several stages of development in its life cycle.
Metamorphosis refers to the way insects develop, grow and change their forms. Metamorphosis actually means change. There are two types of metamorphosis - incomplete and complete.
An insect which undergoes incomplete metamorphosis has three stages [egg--nymph--adult] (eg Grasshopper) in its life cycles. An insect which undergoes complete metamorphosis has four stages [egg--larva--pupa--adult] (eg mealworm bettle) in its life cycle.

Just above for little sharing with all parents here :grphug:
