Agree. How is this going to benefit Singaporean students? MOE never elaborated. Disclaimer: My kids are PR, and I'm a true blue Singaporean. So we'll be affected and we can't be happy about it :roll: Though an increase of $40-$50 won't be enough to deter pple from coming to Sgp and converting to PR, hence taking up sch places. People are paying much more for tuition. I have a greater issue with the millions of fully paid for scholarships given to foreigners, who are not even PRs, and whose parents don't pay any taxes. At least Sgp PRs are paying taxes (assuming that PR students have PR/Citizen parents). This is all 表面功夫 (less complicated than trying to deal with the scholarship issues) to try and win over the voters' hearts。
Wait. Was this really what ksp parents were clamouring for? How is it going to benefit Singaporean kids if their non-Sg classmates will now pay higher fees? Is there any promise that the higher fees collected will be used to bring in more teachers/teacher-training/extra coaching for exams etc.?ksi:

No, actually I don't have much feelings about the fees directly except that MOE has taken some action, at least we know what they are busy with.
With P1 registration priority, I totally understand and agree with the changes. But with the fees, there is no direct benefit to Sg children. Are you honestly feeling better/happier after reading this news? Not me.
A baby step is better than no step, maybe I am easily contented.

ksi, I couldn't decide, cos basically, it doesn't make any difference to me since it isn't our fees that has been lowered in comparison to non-citizens. No use free textbooks. We want free assessment books.
2) As for assessment books, i think this is not that helpful either. Child doesn't really learn much from doing assessment book.
3) Ultimately, give us teachers who can teach properly like is/are/am, pronouns, adjectives etc etc.

This move could be viewed as a half-empty or half-full glass.... So I choose half-full to treat myself better and I feel appreciation may give people more energy to work the next mile.

101% agree with you. What exactly singaporeans get when PRs like myself pay more for my children’s education? I can only imagine more PRs will apply for Sg citizenships and entitle to the same benefits as Sg citizens. Even before the changes to P1 registration, I hv PR friends either the husband or wife but not both of them applied for citizenship just to get baby bonus, pay lesser for childcare, no sch fees & etc…And 1 PR couple who applied for phase 2b (church). Their 1st child did not get in so they went for plan b. The wife applied for sg citizenship (she got it) and they are moving near to one of the Gep schools soon. Bec of the changes to the p1 registration, their 2nd child will hv a higher chance of getting into the gep school and they will apply for transfer of their 1st child to the gep sch. And in the meantime, she is enjoying all the benefits that singaporeans are entitled to. So what exactly singaporeans get or benefit from all these changes? -

The increased citizens were probably seen when the P1 priority changes...
