Actually today I read the newspaper article about this and I feel sad. I know of a close friend who is PR. The increase of $50 per child will be significant to her. And it is not that she and her husband does not want to convert to citizen.

And I am sure there are more of this kind of cases.

Just a lighter note on the difference I notice, I think the poly kids are treated more like young adults, not tied down by school uniforms and stricter rules in school whereas the A levels kids are managed more like kids, maybe that is why they are given bus fare privileges? 👅 🦆
        A level is secondary education.

Poly and Uni is tertiary education. If poly got subsidy, means Uni shd be entitled too.

The increased citizens were probably seen when the P1 priority changes...
Will gender ratio tilt towards 1 side as more PR girls becoming citizens..?

            😆 You've got a point there.

This is harder to predict because we cannot predict the gender of the boys and girls (citizens) born. If more boys are born, then more PR girls also no issue. Well...something they need to monitor.

Are you wondering if more non-citizens with girls will become citizens for schooling purpose because girls no need to serve NS?

Are you aware that sons of PRs are also required to serve NS? And yet there are lots of parents of sons who:
                1. apply for PR
                2. continue to live/work in Sg even after their sons turn 12.

That means, they are willing to let their sons serve NS - sons who may not go on to take Sg citizenship.

So, what you are implying is not necessarily true.

I hope MOE recognizes the hard work put in by teachers, increase their pay and outsource unnecessary work. When teachers are not burdened, they can put in their heart and soul to teach…hopefully.

Teachers teach others’ kids but hardly have any time for their own.

Just curious, what is stopping your friend from converting to citizen then?

jheng, many cases I know is that they still think their homeland is home, not here. Singapore is only a place to make money. Every holiday, you see the long queue at the causeways, they're going to a place they call home.
