I thought this applies to aircon too, read somewhere before that it costs more to switch on and off and on again. Each time you off and on, the aircon has to \"work harder\" to cool down the room again. Can anyone confirm if this is true? DH likes to switch off the aircon for short while if he thinks it is too cold, but I have argued that this will consume more electricity...
And, for some appliances with motor coils like aircon, it is not recommended to On too soon after switching off.
If it is too cold, just increase the temperature setting. The aircon will on/off the fan coil and compressor itself to regulate the temperature.
Switching power on/off would produce current surges which is not very healthy for appliances like air con.

small business they just use those water hose to rinse. big biz must flush if not :faint:
But.... the smell lingers on.... Anyway.... after dh's recent outburst that pls flush and don't be penny wise pound foolish, I think they finally get the point.
Just a thought although I won't do it.. how about putting some of those aromatherapy oil in the toilet. Can get rid of smell?? -

Used to be $500+ according to DH. But now with a new addition, aircon is on most of the time in the day...
In our case, guess it's aircon and water tank heater. The heater is also on 24/7 because don't know when my kids need to wash after pooing...

Just realised our water heater used gas which explains why our gas usage is more than double national average.
If we switch off the main switch for the heater and turn on only in the early morning for morning showers before school and work, will it have adverse effect to the heater? -

Oh my goodness, my utility bill each month is $350. I have cracked my brain many times how to cut down on the bills but doesn't seem to work.
Behind each mth's bill, there's this chart comparing utility consumption between similar households. Yours is way above the average?
Mine is actually only bordering average; for gas it's actually way below since we seldom cook at home. -

Adverse effects as in the things that happen to electrical appliances?
Anyway, In SG, running on gas should be cheaper then running on electricity....
If you use gas.. it's Gas --Burn--> Heat water.
If you use electricity, it is Gas--Burn--Boil Water--Turn Generator--Produce electricity --Distribution Network (With power losses during transmission) --> Heat water.
In places like China with Hydroelectric dam and power station, electricity is cheap.
In SG, it is expensive.. -

PC also should be on the list .... I notice my SP bill goes up to $50 -$80 when dh on leave as he will use his PC fr morn till night plus fan ( sometime aircon) blowing at him.Biggest electricity consumers are the appliances that heat and cool.
1. Aircon
2. Water Heater, esp the tank heaters
3. Big ovens, esp the built-in ones
4. Irons
5. Refrigerators / Chest Freezers
6. Toasters
7. Electrical kettles / airpots -
Got a shock of my life to see my water and electricity consumption usage suddenly shot up 1/3 above the national average for Jun12 while the past six months have been maintaining below national average. What could have gone wrong. Does it mean it is time to change my washing machine? How will one know? Does charger for vacuum cleaner consume a lot of electricity if we leave it one whole night? Was it because the past month have been estimated and June actually reading include adjustment for the past month ? Does it happen to you?
Read somewhere in the bill that there is a website for us to enter our meter reading :? Is it necessary to do that to ensure no data integrity issue in the bill? Else how do you double check the billed reading? -

Actually, the temp is usually at 25 or 26 degrees, but even at very low fan speed, it can still be very cold if you are directly infront of the unit. Again, we were told not advisable to increase the temp to beyond 27 degrees as that will cause the unit to spoil faster.

DH probably thinks it saves more electricity if the aircon is off for 15 minutes when we don't need it, whereas I think might as well leave it on.
don't know who is right?
In our case, it's the chemical wash that is hurting the aircon, even though we clean the filter every week and do regular servicing every 3 months.
