Yes yes did read about those news... I travelled on tiger recently for the 1st time... Wil hope to have other choices this time if going to hkg. However I also read many serious complains about severe flight delays at Jetstar in their Facebook pages.... That's why a bit concerned... Thanks for your sharing.
do look out for promotional offers from Cathay or SQ .... they have the most frequencies and less problems with delays .....
for budget airlines, the headline price plus all other costs that add on to it will normally make it very similar to full service airlines' pricing. and to me it makes the hassles not worth it
my personal preference to travel in larger planes (777 / 380 / 747) which both Jetstar and Tiger do not offer. larger planes feel more steady in turbulence -

I take the budget airlines only to destination that the full service don't go to or to KL. -
agree too… when SQ has promotion it’s 400 plus per adult… when u calculate , it’s abt the same from budget airline… just 200 lesser or so (a group )… i learn this from verykiasu2010 from my last yeat HK trip heee… thanks to u ya !

Hi all,
Thank you for sharing… yes if I am travelling myself, I wouldn’t mind paying more for a full fledged airline… but my sister and her boyfriend are with us so I need to be sensitive with the cost… Now jetstar is offering about $280 to HKG, and the CX is $480… I am so tempted to just buy jetstar because the difference is $200/pax! Any advice?! -
Btw, we have actually booked with this hostel called Hop Inn @ Carnarvon… read a lot of good reviews about the place. Its relatively cheap because it’s not a hotel… this is going to be my 1st time staying like a backpacker, heheheh
Has anyone stay there before?? -
And I will also like to ask whether I should plan to go shenzhen or Zhuhai?? Do I have to start a new thread or can continue in this HKG thread?

For us the diff was about $1.2k for jetstar vs sq. There was a Cathay promo then and it would have been $400 more for the family but the flight out was at 7+am. Way too early for the kids. Hence decided to fly jetstar eventually. The money saved from not flying sq could cover about 80% of our hotel stay. So I find it worthwhile. In any case it wasn't an unpleasant experience and I wouldn't mind flying jetstar again for future trips, if it's cheap enough

Yes, there are 5 of us so we pay $1k more for the flight if we go by CX... but i have read that jetstar is pron to flight delays and the leg room is really tight... weighing all the factors hoping to decide. Actually I can wait for the CX or SQ promo... because our intended dates are 3 months away so there's a good chance there will be more promo coming but my sister is KS... she keeps saying that we will be doomed if no promo!! -
I bought my tix about 2 months before planned travel date. About 1 or 2 weeks later the price started to go up progressively. Eventually it was about the same as sq. I guess you can still wait but try to book early to secure the lower price.
