i bought a SPI small size bag for my girl and used for 5 months which my mother in law keeps complaining the bag is so heavy even with a few books. The empty bag weighs 0.8kg and after much complaints from my mother in law who helps my girl to carry the bag, i changed to hello kitty trolley bag which is impact brand. i bought a detachable trolley bag which i can detach the trolley from the bag if i want to carry plus this impact brand hello kitty bag is quite good in the sense that the trolley attach to the bag. It is not protuding out and actually quite comfortable to carry even if the trolley is still attach to the bag. i would recommend the impact brand hello kitty/melody bag. A pity these are the only 2 design with detachable trolley

Hey Larkspur, have you tried the \"ergobag\"? I heard it's really good. They have it at kid2youth and you can see more info here http://www.kid2youth.sg

no but i am not looking at ergo bags anymore cos i realised the bags weighs at least 0.8kg. I am very very satisfied with the detachable trolley bag which i bought for my girl.

Do not find ergo bags that good. They are heavy and do not have much room for books. I bought trolley bags for my boys and they are fine with it. But in kindy, the ergo bags were good-for the helper πŸ˜‚

Any parents here got the abv mentioned for their kids?

This bag recently won an award and although I find the design good, I also think the price is a tad too pricey.

Thanks for your imput. Very helpful. I short listed Deuter Scholar but cant decide to get S or M. Is your DD small built? Was it 'thick' enough to keep all the books?

                  Buckbrick:
I'm new here. So I like to contribute by posting a summary from my search for dd's bag:

                  1. Backpack or trolley? Backpack. Students are not allowed to use lifts, so imagine lugging a trolley up stairs.
                  2. Ergo or not to ergo? Some say that this thing about ergo is a marketing gimmick. They're not cheap. So if you have a non-ergo bag, just let the bag sit as high up the back as possible.
                  3. Lightest ergo bag. Deuter has the lightest bags around. Impact and Lego bags are the heaviest, followed by SPI. Due to more padding.
                  4. Best place to compare: OG Orchard (SPI, Deuter, Impact), then to Centerpoint (SPI, Lego).
                  5. Cheapest place: OG Orchard during sale. Elsewhere all standard price. SPI limited to 10% off.
                  6. Ergo brands: SPI, Lego, Impact, Firefly/Popular brand, Deuter. Crosscom has some bags for serious money. Artfriend at Ngee Ann City has a German brand Herlitz that has a great large bag for older kids at a reasonable price.

I got the Deuter small scholar act for my dd, nice and light.

Some primary schools ban trolley bags.

Missed the SPI sale. Any idea if they usually have another sale around year end? In Nov or Dec?
