Somewhat. Must be my own thinking and values that is getting in the way of me getting the right picture here. I mean, you are saying that big brother is here to help you in case a former fellow victim bullies you, yet, he is, at the same time, supporting your former bully (who happens to have not admitted they have done any wrong in the past)? Frankly, that gives me the creeps more than anything else! A former NPCC, I will go anytime the country needs me, BUT, that is, if it isn't the country that betrays me first!
d stability which enables one to build economic strength needs a strong military deterrence to back it up.
Wat we don't hv in strength, we ride on d strength of a major power.
Every country is β€˜making use’ of each other for their self interest.
Thus one cannot depend on any one country for our defence as it will ultimately be down to ourselselves
          – therefore SG needs to be self-reliant n remain relevant.
Maintaining a strong military force for deterrence will therefore remain a cornerstone of SG policies.
Its d composition of dat force dat is debatable.

d US is projecting a stronger presence in Asia to keep in check d growing economic n military power of China n India
not purely out of benevolence to protect d 'weaker' countries, but also to protect their own global economic interests.

SG seized d opportunity to become d supply, maintenance n repair base for d US 7th Fleet when d US abandon d Phils.
Changi Naval Base was later built to US specs to accommodate aircraft carriers n nuclear subs which Sembawang Supply base couldn't accommodate.
SG is getting d littorals (4 in total IIRC), d first in dis class to be deploy by d US Navy in d world, ostensibly to protect d sea lanes in d Malacca Straits.

so you belonged to the more welfare soldiers.... enuff said..
oh so u comparing my time and the 70s?

how abt comparing ur son if he goes NS, how welfare is he going to be compared to my time? surely u know back then, there is no Singapore Food Industry and change parade is something of a norm? now u get ppl to cook taste food unlike our time when we had fishes with scales not removed and vegetables with sand still visible..

might as well ask urself now, why the government of yesteryears are more committed in serving singaporeans compared to those now who are more concerned if they are going to get a big fat bonus or not.. isnt there even one shameless one who claim she came into politics not bcos of money but yet kpkb when their salary was slashed???

times have changed hence more welfare maybe, but one damn thing didnt change and its soldiers who had to sacrifice 2 yrs of their lives servicing national service and getting left behind in the corporate world when they get release from the service and yet every yr, the damn thing of going back for ICT with a boss whose face is as black as di ya pek..

no law against men in uniform sleeping on public transport wat..
MPs also sleep in parliament. :rotflmao:
its just a question of projecting a proper image in public lah.

I ever hv one course-mate can sleep anywhere anytime wan.
Its a sight to behold - sat cross-legged, mouth opened big big, head tilted back,
can sleep liddat under d midday scorching sun somemore when lecture going on.
those who experience it before would know.. after the mental torture and physical deprivation of sleep, anytime oso can just knock out.. i personally just sleep while sitting down out in the field as well without knowing it..

so why is there no understanding? yet can have fellow singaporeans taking pictures of a soldier sleeping and posting big big in stomp for all to see? no wonder LKY and his lackeys forever in power.. singaporeans simply love screwing each other without others doing it..

bcoz we're from different era, our concept of what is expected of the image of a soldier maybe different.

There is no right or wrong and not necessary to convince one another which is \"correct\". I just expressed my personal opinion.

As for other part of your post, my comment is

While I support NS (which we may disagree), I do not generally disagree with your other comments on govt .. like dis gracefu person you mentioned..

Anyway.. NS is for Singapore.. not someone's personal army (hmm did someone said that....?)

Singapore != MIW or any political party.

hello, we contribute by giving birth to boys and then let the govt adopt them for 2 yrs  πŸ˜‰ what more you want hah... :nunchuk:

Dis is like wat d Puthucherry guy said abt working in KK is doing NS. :faint:
d girls in d pink army will also contribute to population growth wat.
In addition, they rough it out like wat d males go thru. How about it huh?
We don't hv enuf males to man d divisions.
Come on, do it for Singapore! πŸ˜‰

Hmmmm. If I were 25 years younger, I think I dun mind.
Think only hor, not sure will volunteer or not.

Come my DD time, SG girls already have difficulty finding husband. Roughen up with scars here & there (then other woman all white, smooth, demure etc) .... what are her chances??? Shallow thinking but can't help it πŸ˜‰[/quote]Hmmmm, I didn't get any scars while training. During training, unless it's Physical Training, we were in our no.4 long sleeves, plus boots, pretty much covered up. My hands became rough from the pull-ups, lady style, but went back to normal after passing out from OCS. I was tan from the constant outdoor training but again after passing out from OCS, i was not so tan as compared during the time that I was during training.
