at wat age can our kids renounce their citizenship?

Only 2nd generation.of PRs needs to.do.NS. My PR friends study in Sg since Secondary schools need not do NS and apply for Sg citizenship after 35+
who says PR kids no need do NS ?DesertWind:
If the SG-reans gets lesser and lesser with the birth rate and all, and PR kids no need to do NS, then does it still make sense for SG-boys to do NS?
A key argument by the PRs, they too pay tax hence they should have equal rights to all the benefits.
How about NS?
Garmen expect us to do NS to protect the interest of the foreigners and PRs? :scared:

.[/quote]These type of PRs who game d system we don't need.
There r also some FTs whose father, mother, daughters gained citizenship status for d benefits
but their son(s) opts out so as not to do NS.
d ppl who served n feel disadvantaged for giving 2 or more years n subsequent ICTs disrupting work/career n missing promotions r upset with d gahmen for allowing dis to continue. -

Yes, I have read the recent newspapers and what the minister Ng said about this.
Have you not read the papers on this? You renounce to escape NS, you think you gonna get PR?DesertWind:
Should SG-reans renounce their citizenship and come back as a PR?
Get all the good benefits and no need much liability. For example, no need to serve NS? -
verykiasu2010:
you want PR ? there will be pay back time before they will consider
Like how, vk2010? Nowadays your posts very vague I have trouble understanding you leh. :? -

Yes, PR kids who are born here and citizen need to do NS. Such are \"caught\" as good as the rest of us here. PR who go back to their own countries and their kids not born here escape again. No? -

Yes, your friend escaped. Have good life here (I presume). And we wait long long for him to have a 2nd generation. That is, if he get married and his kids born here... -

Such FTs have choices to opt. in or out (we don't). Garmen allowing it with the consolation thought that their next generation will sink their roots here. Perhaps but perhaps not...
People feel upset because not enough distinction of benefits between citizens and PRs. With the thought of having to sacrifice our sons' lifes and yet not having much better advantages. Just sucks.

Wat r d harsh penalties?
1. PRs put up bond for their sons; bonds to be forfeited if they don't fulfill their NS duties.
2. MOM will consider tourist/work re-entry for PR sons who skip NS.
Wat else?
For (1), citizens r also putting up bonds for their sons who go overseas for > 3 months IIRC n who hv yet to fulfill their NS liability.
For (2), its not a hard n fast rule, at discretion of power-dat-be.
Wld these 'harsh' penalties deter u if u were a PR considering skipping NS?
Spoke to a few PRs who r frank enuf to say they r using SG as a stepping stone to d West/Oz/NZ.
Dr NEH did put out d msg dat if one is not committed to dis country, one shd not become PR.
Now he just gotta turn those words into action. -
