The results so far for scgs are v discouraging for p2b and p2c parents. any parents going for 2c scgs within 1km here? what are your thoughts?

I do not remember SCGS has to ballot in phase 2b. In 2011, everyone got in under phase 2b and there were some seats left for phase 2c. It is phase 2c that is very competitive. But average neighbourhood schools, especially those in the west, are more competitive than SCGS.

Yes no balloting in 2b at least in the last 5 years. Last yr 3 places were remaining in 2b and spilled over to 2c i think. Last year, there was no balloting in 2c as number of applicants = number of places.

We are SC and live within 1km and fall under 2c but it looks risky this year. I am prepared to ballot but only if the odds are not very high. Will have to look at plan B in earnest! Hope 2b parents will consider other less risky sch since most of them are gl! 😜

Don't look good coz balloting within 1 km for the last 2 years. No point lamenting about it. Put in all your energy and concerntration in preparing a back-up plan. Just move on.
Yes definitely need to be clear headed to deal with this \"crisis\"! πŸ˜‰

We are in 2c (<1km) and thinking of doing so but, after looking at the number of places left, are terrified of the consequences of doing so. Not sure what to do yet......

So many variables - whether your child has younger siblings to consider, proximity of Plan B schs, affiliation. I think everyone has different considerations. For me, I have a younger daughter so I am more focused on girls' schools that are within reasonable distance.

Phase 2b of scgs will be interesting as this is the first year that grls from

Moulein- kallang will participate. Previously scgs was under tanjong pagar.

                Interesting view point. πŸ˜„

Very curious if the GRLs from Moulmein-Kallang will be more than, almost the same level or probably lesser than those from Tanjong Pagar?

yea, i wonder too. Given that this year is the first year and grls have to fulfill 1 yr service as EM to be eligible for phase 2B reg (wh means they must be appointed as EM from observer latest 1 yr ago) , i gathered not many grls joined Moulein-kallang with SCGS as target at that point. But i could be wrong.

Ya. We’re hoping there will be an undersubscription of 2b this year so more places will be transferred to 2c.

I think you mean no balloting within 1 km for 2011 phase 2c as all within 1 km got in last year but there were disappointments for those exceeding 1 km. We do expect the competition to get more intense for those within 1km due to the increase in housing surrounding the school.

For phase 2b, while the dynamics for GL is expected to change, there is also an increasing trend of PVs over the last few years.

For phase 2c, the competition is also affected by the neighbouring schools such as NYPS and RGPS.

I was fetching my dd from SCGS on the last day of phase 2c in 2011, at around 4ish pm (the last hour before phase 2c registration ended). There were many parents rushing to the school at the last hour. The admin staff told me that the school had informed those parents outside 1 km to come to de-register. Some did not make it on time. I understand that the same situation happened at SJIJ too.

All the best to all of you who are registering for SCGS!
