I was angry why din my parents send me to popular sch when I was young since there wasn't much competition 30 to 40 years ago. If not, my children will be admitted straight away through phase 2A, my grandchildren will have no worries to go in and also my great grand children and great great grand...there will be no stress for the next generation.
You can't say that. When my mum registered me at rss, the enrolment was dropping for the school. In an attempt to boost enrolment, they even had K2 classes. They also shifted out from kampong area to the existing school site. Last time, most parents will go for convenience and not the reputation. -

Errrrr, I heard from my dh's aunt, her parents, who were my dh grandparents, queued at ACS, 3 days and 3 nights for a spot for my dh's cousin during P1 registration. They managed a get a spot for him. So it's not true to say last time long long ago P1 registration was not competitive hor

I believe this is due to the results of schools going into single session and hence, the number of classes have to be reduced. Being said that, govt has also opened up a few new schools this year to cater for the outstanding numbers.
This might be true for some schools this year. But for schools like Rulang and Nan Hua, the total number of vacancies remain the same as last year but less vacancies left now. Rulang \"suffered\" the reduction of one class last year and I was \"one of the victims\".
If you look at those full schools like Cat High, St Nicks, SCGS and MGS, their vacancies are taken up faster this year. -

Remember when you register, there's a column about the distance?
Totally know how you feel. I saw only 30 seats left after 1st day of Phase 2A2.... biting nails now... cos still got 1 day to go.... if more than 30 applicants, 2A2 will require to ballot.... (cross finger! cross fingers!!!!)KK Yeo:
Has anyone got any idea if any schools have ever held balloting for Phase 2A2? I just registered today and learnt that there're only 25 vacancies left. I'm afraid if there are more than 25 applicants tomorrow, there'll be balloting held, and my chance will be extremely slim since i stay beyond 2km.
The school adminstrator told me it has never held balloting in the entire history of the school for this phase, but i'm still nervous!
Will the distance ruling kick in before balloting is done? -

My parents also registered my brother & I in the same school as cousins…for convenience also. Male cousins stayed 2 lanes away…so mum sends us to school in the morn and uncle will pick us after school.
However, I was on wait list for CHIJ where cousin was. I managed to transfer when I was in P5. -

Which were the good schools 30-40 years ago? NYPS, HPPS, MGS, RGPS weren't last time.
My mum sent me to the top school in our neighbourhood last time. All girls'. My elder sis couldn't ballot in and when it was my turn, she didn't put me together with my sis but went through the ballot one more time. However, MOE decided to acquire the place after a few years and also due to the decreasing no. of residents in that area, they had to close down the school and merged us with another coed school.
Even if the school is around, it's of no use to me cos I have a DS. :rotflmao: -

Wah, are you serious pchong? I feel a bit \"wu gu\" for your parents. Although I am not sure how educated they were during their time but for my mother who is illiterate, she just sent me to the nearest neighbourhood school whereas my neighbour kids mostly went to convent and boys schools.
Whereas my hubby's father sent my hubby and sister-in-law into those high demand schools. Now I thank him for his good choice my kids got priority into this high-demand school. On the other hand, my hands are tied I cannot choose a co-ed school for my boys which I preferred but got to go to this all-boys school.
Moreover, I am staying just a stone's throw away from SNGS but I got no girls leh...
I don't want to sound preachy but do look forward, not backwards!

I do not think phase 2A will be removed completely. Those policy makers will not let this happen :-). What is more likely to happen is to remove (or put a cap) phase 2A2 and only active alumni will benefit from phase 2A. They might also re-define \"active alumni\" but leave it to the school and alumni association to determine who the active alumni are. Active alumni would no longer be some old boys or girls who pay a fee to join the alumni association.
Looking at things now, don't think our grandchildren will get to enjoy Phase 2A.

Totally agree! The sense of belonging is great when you return to your old school and you tell your children about the history of the school.
