          Dear mamalin,

No.she will be in pm. I will see how it goes. This Pcf is going to upgrade another session as child care. Has yet to review it’s program and structure。

This Pcf uses jolly phonics and have spelling since k1. It has enrichment after school which I find it may not benefit pm kids.

            really? oh dear…

By nursery, do you mean Nursery 1 for the 3 yr olds or Nursery 2 for the 4 yr olds?

By the way, what do they do in N1, for the 1h45min?

            Thanks for sharing.

Are there any parents with kids in K1/K2 at the Toh Yi branch? Is it good?

Mummies… anyone of your kids going to N1 next year?

My DD will be starting N1 nxt year at the PCF with the K+ program. I received a letter about going to purchase the uniforms & pay for the book fee next week. I am surprised that even for N1, the book fee is almost double, which is $70+ instead of the normal $30+… but what is exactly the difference? Since the classes are only 1hr45min session per day regardless of K+ or not…

Also, my DD has not been to sch yet, thus I’m pretty sure she will be crying a lot especially during the initial period. I wonder what can they learn if the teacher has to spend another 15-30mins pacifying kids daily… but hopefully all will turn out well.

What is the benefit of having Spelling to K1 children? For mums to compare the marks or to stress the poor child. A good preschool teacher who truly understands what is early childhood education will not provide Spelling at K1. It may do more harm than good for the poor child in K1.

                        come P1, under English \"Stellar programme\" :-
after reading \"Big book\" storybooks aloud by teacher to P1 students in class, pupils need to answer questions in worksheets handed out, after hearing the story narrated by teacher. Some of the qns can be cloze passage(s) fill in the blanks type, or can be answer simple comprehension qns, or can be spelling.

if a child by K2 still not exposed to spelling, and first time go P1 then encounter spelling, it depends. If the child can catch up fast able to spell, no issue. But if the child struggle with spelling in P1, parents panic. To be able to tackle and answer simple comprehension qns, or told to re-order the sequence structure of sentence(s) into its correct sequence format, or requested to write minimal 5 to 10 lines picture composition containing Proper Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs.

The child has to start writing in paragraphs, in complete full sentence(s).
Each sentence begin with a Capital letter and end with a full stop. This is when spelling helps a lot & come in handily / useful if a child already have some spelling background beforehand, or at least know how to spell the basic commonly / frequently encountered words, compared to another kid who still doesn't know how to spell. Ask - which child do you think will be able to write in paragraphs more efficiently / effectively - a child who knows how to spell, or a child who is weak / poor in spelling ?

most pre-schools introduce spelling in K2. But some \"kiasu\" a bit start earlier, at K1. A child entering P1 now is expected - to be able to both read AND write.
