Some of these untrained teachers may never get that NIE training. This was what I heard from a reliable source :censored:

I do know that some Teachers aren't trained when first deployed, because I was not trained in the 6 months before my NIE stint... and I know some people currently teaching who have not been trained. I thought this was to ascertain whether they demonstrated a good fit for the job before being accepted into NIE.

Like VKS2010 I kind of find it hard to believe some Teachers NEVER get to go to NIE... Not DISbelieving yet... but I find it hard to believe. If this is true, then it really goes to show that we have fallen short of some basics to help Teachers teach better.

      Is it true?

Since it has been established that there are SOME NIE trained teachers who cannot teach, I don't see why the fuss about untrained teachers. For many other professions, we all have to start from somewhere. Why pick on the teachers only? This is clearly looking like a witch hunt .... a means to find any negative crumb against teachers to feed the masses.

Janet... I'm confused now. Can I just clarify with you ... do you think...

        (1) .... ALL teachers can't teach, or some?

        (2) .... ALL teachers can't teach because they're lousy themselves or because of some systemic lack?

        (3) .... ALL teachers are spoilt rotten or do they have a tough time too and life could be made better for them through systems strengthening?

There are passionate teachers still around...they are dedicated and really go all the way.

          (2) .... ALL teachers can't teach because they're lousy themselves or because of some systemic lack?
Some could have lost that passion after years of teaching. There may be other factors involved.

          (3) .... ALL teachers are spoilt rotten or do they have a tough time too and life could be made better for them through systems strengthening?

A friend of mine didn't get a pass in English. So he could not get the formal training at NIE.

He is still teaching? After how many years?

Yeah...he is still an adjunct teacher. Teaching technical subjects...he must have been in the school for about 3 years already.

The latest posts that I have just read, the subtle or not so
subtle nuances towards the alternative group shocked me. Now who is stoking the fire huh??
Yes... we can do without the subtle nuances from \"limlim's camp\" (unnecessarily provocative)... even as we can do without the word \"rubbish\" (also very provocative) from people in the \"alternative camp\". Though... this notion of \"camp\" is rather polarizing, and I do know that from whichever the camp, there are overlapping areas that we do agree upon.
                autumnbronze:
in what the alternative group have to say and choose to read what they want to read
Limlim did concede that he had a \"bad idea\" or something like that?

                autumnbronze:
In the recent years, I have seen 4 cousins-in-law picking themselves up after their secondary education because they imbibed the same qualities mentioned above and are doing very well now. 2 of them were from Rosyth, one from a neighbourhood and one from the normal technical stream. So not all from good schools do well in their PSLE. And there are a myriad of reasons why pupils may not do well in their studies in their younger days.
This is inspiring. It comes at the right time to calm our spirits in the months before PSLE.

                Peace everyone.

Adjunct teachers do strengthen the system by helping out full teachers. This is good, no? Or do I misunderstand the role of Adjunct? Adjuncts get to teach full classes and be wholly responsible for full classes?

Sometimes they may perform better coz they r not directly under MOE’s payroll and not required to do those non-academic related stuff.

Have a friend who quitted and re-joined a school…not sure what is the title but he just go and teach, no CCA, no non-academic activities…he’s very happy with the arrangement.

There are a handful who do not sent for training at NIE. For eg, if the person didn't get a pass in Eng...but this friend of mine is ok with it since he doesn't have to attend endless meetings and get to coach his kids in their school work.
