If the so-call\"mainstream christian\", think that their teaching is at odd with the genuine words of Jesus, then I think there must be the majority of christians in singapore following the wrong teaching such that the so-call \"mainstream\" may be the minority instead.

I'm extremely disappointed but we have to understand that the event is due in 2 weeks so it's very difficult for the organisers to make alternative arrangement. Having said that, :scratchhead: what is the actual reason for the cancellation since this event is planned long ago? IMHO, CHC may have decided to withdraw from the limelight yet shouldn't priority should be given to God's work? This shows that the other churches have relied on CHC too much for organising this event. I remember when Billy Graham came in 1970s, many churches were involved (there were no megachurches yet) and every church played a part. Shouldn't this be the case for FOP? :? :slapshead:

1) Not enough money and human resources (what cannot be understood is that such events are usually planned in advance, why so last min cancellation? And also other churches can chip in to support mah. A less elaborated stage performance is also possible, just focus on prayers also can, why must cancel?)
2) Due to the ongoing developments, many people are withdrawing support for CHC, as a result even if they want to support, they may lack the manpower.
3) Money resource could be a big headache now - since the whole saga started, donations could be held back and thus, now they could be facing a shortage of funding for the projects that they have committed earlier i.e buying into Suntec, how to pay up now?
4) HK and gang are the main persons, now faced with serious potential jail terms and all that, they are coped up everyday meeting with lawyers, sorting out defenses and mitigation strategies, thus really cannot pay any more attention to other stuffs.
5) The leaders (organizers & CHC included) intend to send a message to the Christian community saying \"Look what has happened to us after the CAD alleged such serious accusations, it is affecting our movement\" + \"Lets all pray for our bros and sis in time of needs\". Rallying all Christians against?
In any case, cancelling the event due to resource constraint make some sense, but adding that all Christians should now unite and pray for KH and gang imply that they are persecuted (unjustly). This is very misleading statement esp when the management of CHC already came out earlier to dispute the charges by COC and CAD, implying that the accusations are baseless. Is this a case of religion organizations trying to encroach into national politics/policies/interests? As a citizen of this country, I personally view these few statements made by the churches as challenging our jurisdiction. What if the 5 are really convicted beyond reasonable doubts? How are they going to make amendments to such statements? What signal are they trying to send to the public now? All these, couple up with 200 members turning up at the Court and forming human chain to block off reporters... geess.... I think the government ought to come out now and do something, things are getting out of hand the way I look at it.
Maybe the government cannot interfere when it comes to religion doctrines and teaching. However, religious leaders in Singapore should also not make any public statements regarding individuals whom are charged under the Law, esp giving any sort of impression that the charges by the authorities are wrong.
I remember watching court proceedings of Abu Bakar Bashir of Indonesia and how his supporters turn up in force to the court sessions and make so much noise outside the court. Also, when he was released previously, the grand reception awaiting him outside.. gees.. are we heading there too?

I[/quote]I do agree that the decision to cancel FOP is a poor one and it reflects badly on CHC and other churches who are participating. We may not know the reason why, but this episode only serves to highlight further that Kong Hee = CHC.
Regarding praying for Kong Hee and CHC, as a Christian we are taught to love our enemies as stated by the Bible. Even if we are not in a position to directly shows any kind act of kindness towards our enemies, the least we can do is to pray for them. In this case, there really is nothing wrong with praying for Kong Hee and the gang. Like what I said earlier in the post, I encouraged every Christian to pray for them. While obviously it is not right to pray that they are innocent and will escape justice, we can still pray for God's wisdom and mercy to be upon them and their families.
However, I fully understand that a lot of non believers and new Christians are puzzled at why so many leaders, including NCCS's head, Lawrence Khong, and Canon Wong are encouraging Christians to unite and pray for Kong Hee and CHC. Some people have asked why we should pray for Kong Hee if he's really blasphemous and guilty. Isn't that like siding with him and admitting he's innocent? I do despise Kong Hee for his blasphemous teaching and I feel he is not fit to be a reverend or pastor, but as a Christian it is not right to deny him prayer and love. Afterall, Jesus did come down to die for us even though we all rejected Him and persecuted Him. I do feel in this aspect church leaders should have been more specific when it comes to asking Christians to pray for Kong Hee. Statements like what is found in FOP's page, can easily be misleading if the proper context is not explained. -

I will not be suprised that there will come one day that these wrong teachings are accepted widely because a lot of people find them attractive. The churches that preach these wrong teachings continue to grow and attract big congregration, often much more so than the traditional churches. For one of us who do not believe in these teachings, there are probably 2 or 3 more who do. It is a worrying trend and God warned us that the gate of Heaven is narrow indeed.

It is also happening to other religions. A friend of mine who practices Tibetan Buddhism laments the state of Buddhism in Singapore. Instead of studying and applying Buddha's teachings in their lives, people are more concerned with going to temples with all the deities to pray for fortune or have their fortunes told. -
