I'm going to register my DS at St.Gabriel's tomorrow. Am within 1km so it should be no sweat getting in. Still feeling a little nervous though as I've agonised over this for the last three years. I still have questions racing through my mind - \"is this a good school?\", \"is this school good for my son?\", \"are other options like Kuo Chuan better?\", \"should I give up my place at St. Gabs and go for ACJS in Phase 2C - further from home, but a school I feel a connection with as it's my alma mater?\"...

But I am thankful that I have options, and thankful that even the \"worst\" school in Singapore is likely to be a far better option than what many children in Asia have.

So to all Mummies and Daddies out there, Singaporeans and PRs, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. I hope everyone gets a place in the school that is best for their child. One that would nurture them to the best of their abilities and impart good values to them.

      My best wishes to all!
I find a lot of comfort reading your post. Thank you!

      :hugs:

Today's ST has a parent writing in to ask for abolishing of Phase 2A: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Sto ... 23421.html

Priority for citizens not effective enough...
In my 2 cents opinion, maybe MOE should start to look at ownership of the property use for registration rather than IC address, many people rent a place to register their children. Especially those within 1km from good school.

Many good school now are a result of hard work from school staff, kids studying there & parents/alumni support. The bonding with the school for generations will never be understood by outsiders who just want to take advantage of the current success of the school. My FIL & DH went to the same school, they are passionate about their school, join the same alumni, contributed much to the school in everyways they can even after they graduated. So naturally we will want our DS to have a secure place in the same school, share the same spirit & passion too!

          Hi,

i am registering my dd next yr. between Poi Ching School (SAP Sch) n Nan Chiau Pri Sch, which school would you choose? We are both 1-2km from both Sch under P2B. We PV in poi Ching n shkk (3rd yr). Poi Ching is current property n Nan Chiau is under construction (TOP 2013/4). In dilemma... I heard NCPS is soon a SAP school, not sure when this will happen. Is that true?

NCPS conducted balloting within 1km in phase 2B & 2C.

If you are stayed 1-2km the chances very slim.

The classes will be reduce to 7 classes for PCS, but I'm not sure when, you may call the school to confirm again.

Not sure will NCPS switch to single session or not.

Just apply both school PV , see which school accept you and offer you job.
There are parents who rejected by school.

you know what they should do to spread out to attain the evenness of the schools

is to take out some of the prinicpals from the popular schools and some of the stronger teachers and move them to some of the weaker schools to boost the standards and groom their teachers … thats just an idea , then the vice principals of the popular schools can still maintain the standards … of those schools …
why do unpopular schools need to suffer , as motto says all schools are good schools , prove us wrong move the staff and offer the existing principals a challenge … to boost weaker schools

I will be registering my boy next year. Need some advise :

I am currently renting out my place which is 1KM from GMPS. I am currently staying with at my PIL place which is 1KM from MBS. I am wondering if I should move back to my place so that I can register at GMPS under Phase 2C or stay put and try balloting < 1KM for MBS under Phase 2C. Looking at this year statistic and don’t know if I should take the risk.

Secure a place in a so called good school will not guarantee good grades for the child.

Parents have to put in effort as well, I have a friend who spend a few k per month for enrichment classes for the kids. Not only that, she quit her job to spend at least 4 hrs to coach her kids daily.

I think she's going to groom her kids to be a scholar just like their daddy πŸ˜“

Hot housing may result ultimately in:

Mr/Ms So and So... This and That Scholar... BA(Hons) NOT First Class. Univ students can be mean too :nunchuk: , you know.

Better to teach them how to think and study for themselves.

                        Hi dawnie,
If you are registering using your PIL address you need be make statutory declaration which you will be classified as <2 km when it come to balloting. You might want to check out more on the statutory declaration as I found out from the 2013 registration for 2014 thread that moe rejected an applicant this year.
