Home Ownership Plus Education (HOPE) Scheme

The HOPE scheme is for families with gross household income of $1,500 per month or less. How many kids do you reckon that a family with household income of $1,500 should have?

I don't get why are you showing me this?

isn't it even worse? Birth rate is dropping and they are only giving incentives to the highest income bracket to have more children. Not much incentives if you belong to the middle-low income group. And with this HOPE, they are blatantly discouraging more children from the low income group. I try not to call this discriminative social engineering but many will say that it is.

You can see that so little is done to promote local total fertility rate and they are pinning hope on quick solution like immigration. Giving expensive scholarships to foreigners...So what is this immigation about? Wouldn't they add to severity of greying population 20-30 years down the road instead of solving it even partially?

        Weihan

You have no idea why I am showing you this?!

You have levied criticisms on the HOPE scheme. Are you even aware what the HOPE scheme is all about?

So what's your position? It's ok for households with less than SGD1,500 per month to have 3 kids or more? It's ok that they cannot afford to feed, clothe or educate the child? As long as they are contributing to the population numbers, the state gotta bear responsibilities for all that?

Actually, was wondering who does the Govt need to allow PRs to buy HDB flats?

PRs can always rent HDB or buy condo right? If they are attracting "Talents", not cheapo PMET labour to complete with citizens for jobs.

Or HDB can rent flats to PRs.

Why must allow PR to buy HDB flats?

Although I am a pr myself, I also think it's not wise to allow prs to buy public housing and cause the market to go haywire. I think garment's idea is to make these prs to be more invested in sg and hopefully will settle down and convert, either that or hdb just want $$$. 🤷

It is the whole family PR type who are allowed to buy HDB that is an issue. Basically HDB flat is just another \"lottery ticket\" for them.. and hence they are PR, their roots are not here, and after they made enough they'll just make another windfall by selling the HDB flat at elevated prices to locals.

They should make it such that to buy HDB flats, at least one owner must be citizen.

Are PRs allowed to buy NEW HDB flats or are they allowed to buy RESALE HDB flats? If resale, it still makes sense since they'd be buying from citizens who has the exclusive rights, no? If PRs are allowed to buy NEW HDB flats and citizens who are single are not, then it doesn't make sense to me.

They can only buy from the resale market. Recently, rules also change for PRs who want to rent out their HDB flats - only can rent out 2 years and have to seek approval from HDB again. Used to be 5 years.

                        Resale only.

But, you are also competing with citizens even if it is resale.

HDB is supposed to be subsided housing for citizens.

HDB can build and rent flat flats to them, or they can rent from citizens. Why allow PRs to own HDB flats? If they are rooted here and can commit, they can always apply citizenship and buy HDB flats.

The current situation now is like, those who cannot commit here, can buy HDB flats which is almost like sure way to make money. Lots of money.
