Their suggestions came a tad late bah.
buds...check with them whether can backdate or not....and you can claim up to 12-24 months of leave....hahaha....buds:
The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has come up with suggestions to nudge reluctant Singaporeans to have more babies.
I'm not reluctant..
Okay mebbe i was at first..
But i oredi have them now.
..... and they are still at suggestions.....
Buds_hubs' suggestions were more concrete.
And faster..
We've had two more babies at the point when they have first raised the issue. Tsk Tsk too slow... too slow... -

True true.. Hence, just extending the maternity leave is talk easy but not very feasible..There's always 2 sides to a coin. Not saying that discrimination does not happen but just that not all employees who get the boot when they are preggers are the victims.
Maybe extend the Childcare leave until the child is 12yo is better
Afterall primary education is very important too..
Let the parents be able to spend more time with the kids in the developing years is more practical. -

The govt wants working mothers.. That's why got so much incentive for WM..How about incentives for stay home mothers as well?
There are many SAHMs who used to be professionals.
Though they cannot contribute to the economy after
staying home now, they can help contribute to the
boost in baby numbers. :please:
And professionals who give up the work is a loss to the economy.... why would the govt wanna encourage that? -

While I rejoice for the mothers, motherhood and families, I fear the disruption to the workplace.
true.. that's why, childcare leave is the the best..
More days.. extend the entitlement years.. more practical.. spread out the leave.. -
They keep talking about maternity. In this, I think the govt or whoever is proposing this is not truly hearing what people are asking for. With extended maternity, the main bulk of caring for the baby is again pushed to the mother. And like what Buds say, it does nothing for SAHM at all. What will help will be enforcing paternity leave. And not a measly 1 week or 2 week leave, bite the bullet and give 6-8weeks that can be taken anytime within 1 year of baby’s birth.

My sister :faint: when she read this.
There has been no increase in head count for a few years now. She is doing 1.5 person work.
So if 2 mothers go on maternity leave either togather or one after another, she will go :siao: . -

You said everything I want to say. It is so clear that they think bulk of the responsibility for caring for baby belongs to the mother and only the mother. :stupid: When are they going to realise that part of the problem in Asia is the expectation the society has of its mothers? Only when they start instituting changes that promote more sharing of responsibilities between husband and wife, will we see a meaningful reversal of the declining birth rate.
I say, start with that paternity leave, for goodness sake! -
Yeah.... More paternity leave... Less ICT...
Everytime ICT will be logistic headache for the family... :faint: -
At a current 4 months, my company recept was encouraged to take 3 months and leave the 1 month as annual leave. Company not willing to pay for part time and get the despatch to take over during her absence.
How about the worry of after 6 months, return and the job is taken up by others? -
I am not sure how our pro-business government could enforce such a policy of 6 months’ paid maternity leave for mothers and another 6 months of unpaid leave.
A close friend who married a Japanese and currently staying/working in Japan told me that Japan provides one year of maternity leave, starting with full pay and then gradually change to partial pay. In the past, most mothers do not return to workplace after that one year of leave. Most Jap companies would recruit a replacement when the mothers go on leave. But in recent years, there is a trend of mothers returning back to workplace after one year of leave, leading to the companies in a position of having excess staff when the mothers return. Our culture here would be to get another employee to double or triple up the workload. Who would dare to go on 6 months or 12 months of leave?
