My current indo maid, just started work a month ago decided not to fast.

I’ve had several indo maids through the years, when they are fasting that year, I will buy dates for them to break their fast and let her have that hour to prepare breaking fast and eating. I also cook extra for left overs for them to eat at whatever time they suppose to eat.

        Hi,

Can I check if ur Indo maids puasa? Heard some maids don't. My maid wants to puasa, so I told family members don't let her do too much work. But when she puasa, her face is so black like i forbid her from eating.
        :?
        Hi,

Fasting in the month of Ramadhan is compulsory to all Muslim. Eventhough if she fast, she has to do her normal job as usual, just like us. We don't normally give fasting as an excuse to do light job.

Some maid do not fast as they are not that religious. It all depends on the employer and her ability to cope while fasting.

          Thanks for both your replies.

Thing is i asked her to:
          - cook whatever she needs to eat for herself in the morning -> don't want
          - if too troublesome to cook early morning, cook extra at night so she only need to heat up and eat in the morning -> don't want

Worst, she missed the timing to eat in the morning, she refused to eat anything at all, even though we told her to eat something.
          Really headache. :slapshead:

Newbie here. Trying to learn more on maid and how to get one.

Appreciate any advice. What are the implications of getting a maid and things to consider or take note. Thanks.

                Hi peapot,
In ur opinion, what can u see abt any underlying problem? U can pm me if not comfortable. Initially i thought she was religious, but apparently not as she said she can eat if she cannot take it. Anyway, I already in the process of changing her, give up on her. 🤷

Yoyodaddy, I am still new to employing maid, still learning. So can't give much advise there. But i do know when u get new maid, it is impt to make sure ur contract entitle you to at least one free replacement. U will find this useful if u ever need to change maid.

My maid puasa if she can. We will buy dates for her and at one time when I noticed she was waking up to eat something in the early morning, bought her one bun or snack until she told me to stop. She will also not fast for that day if our family has a big event eg. like a party. Now I leave it up to her. Work goes on as usual.

Hi there... i am so glad to hv bump to tis interesting topic. i need your advise pls. anyone plsssss!!! *pardon my grammar*

I went for a maid hunt 3weeks ago... for three straight days! first time employing one btw. i did my homework n all and decided to hire a transfer maid whom had or going to finish her contract 2yrs or more plus with good record. i wanna interview her face to face too. my criteria: a muslim, can speak english, able to care for 3active children aged 7,4 and 16mths old (so basic first aid knowledge is good to have), simple cooking (if hubby n i not home) and do general housekeeping. she needs to be 155cm or above height (don want her to use the stool unnessarily).

the search was mentally n physically exhausted. it was not easy. third day (a sunday), we decided to go to nation employment agency at simei pt in the morning. alamak! :slapshead: cannot make it them all. most smell bad. dint shower! not hygienic! then the english speaking.. very hard to understand. i was like wanna gif up! to cut the long story short, we skip n left the building disappointed.

we went for lunch n continued our hunt. on the saturday, we went to far east shopping ctr. interviewed some. interested with one. fitted our criteria. ask for $500 2days off. expensive but we feel is alright. btw m a sahm. hubby alone working. i plan to go bk to work after all is settled at home. the queue was long. we number 4. so gotta wait our turn to plc for the deposit etc. a lady came. ask for the same girl. offered $500 n 4days off. guess wat?! the girl took the offer!!!! WTH!!! we left the building *angry n upset*

so the sunday after we had our lunch, we ride down to bukit timah shopping ctr. woahhhhh!!! so many agencies!!! however, many not to our liking. treated the maids like shit. shouted n screamed. not professional. to cut another long story short, we paused n decided to hop in one last agency. bright lit space n very pink. so we mentioned our search. interviewed one who is 29yo, single, 5yrs in singapore, work for 2employers, clean record, willingness to learn n ready for transfer. reason of transfer. current employer children big oredi. wat we like too is her cv \"don like to breach contract\".. ask for $500 2off days. fit well. n shes ours for the past one week. she work well, kids love her.

now! yest... my helper ask for a transfer! cz she cant do table set up like i do!! *headache* i ask her where is her willingness to learn. anyway, the table set up not important. m jus systematic tts all (i was an ex flight crew for 10yrs. everything was first class. so used to it). m reasonable. i told her she can skip la. i stopped her idea of transfering. she apologised.

now problem is i felt threaten. wat if she does it again. i wan her to be happy working for us. dilemma 😞 wat say u all.. i cant sleep

Shebeautiful: At 4am, you must be having a big case of sleeplessness indeed!! I had my first maid 2 months before my #2 was born. She lasted for a month or so before I sent her back to the agency. My current maid started working with us a few weeks after my #2 was born. We have had our moments (of doubt, despair, and utter disbelief!) with her, but I try to think of the positive side.

To set your expectations on the right scale, I should alert you that 90% of the maids are looking for simple and easy jobs. We are lucky if they enjoy being around children, or cooking, or gardening, or doing housework. Just like us, they do not always get to choose a job of their choice. We do not get a maid-to-fit.

Setting the ground rules would be important. You would also need to list down your priorities - and as an SAHM, you get to slowly introduce her to more work, more skills, and doing things the way you want to. When you despair, think about these priorities. It helps to cool us down.

I stress that you should not, at any point feel unsafe or threathened by the maid leaving. I personally feel that for a live-in maid, good character, personality and attitude is crucial - the rest about skills, speed, ability, etc can be ignored. Finding a maid is not easy, but better they leave now than later, right? At least now you’re still a SAHM and your children are not attached to her.

                        Good luck!
