SCGS is not about academic results. They are known for their holistic exposure to other aspects of education which parents may consider more important than academics. Having said this, it does not mean their academics is not strong, it is just not their only main focus, they try to emphasize on other things as well.
I fully agree! Of all my SCGS friends I have not met one who is not articulate and gracious and polite. -
Herbie:
For those who applied under GRC if there out of 2km they need to go for balloting right.
As in all phases, balloting kicks in when there are more applicants that what the school can offer.
The priority in securing a place is based on distance, those staying nearest get in first in the following order: <1km, 1-2km and lastly>2km.
There will not be any distinction between PVs, church/clan members and GRLs. So in SCGS case the 7 applicants that resides >2km from the school be they PVs or GRLs have equal chance in balloting, it all depends on who ladyluck favours!
As for how many PVs in SCGS, don't think anyone has the info, the sch keeps it confidential.
It is definitely stressful to be at the bottom of the pecking order but   :nunchuk: won't get us anywhere.
We can respond and react better when we are clear-headed.
So keep
and best of luck to all P2B parents going for balloting this Wed and to P2C parents too.

My SCGS friends. Articulate? Yes! Gracious and polite? Umm. .. .I think I better reserve my comment on these. -

As I know SCGS is not top ten primary school in terms of academy. This can be found in this forum on Top ten primary school academy excellency list. I am confused.
Hey, don’t get confused. When you read any article, need to question quietly – based on what facts & figures are those schools you had read being classified as Top 10 ?
I do not know which article you’re refering to, published by which author so can’t answer. Anyway, different authors have different ways of interpreting their definition of “Top 10.” Some just look at only the Top PSLE score achieved by schools, and conclude Ya, is inside Top 10. Other authors look at other criteria instead. Different criteria mean different thing.
when one look at Top Psle score:
they focus on ONE student out of entire P6 cohort, ie. the Top student.
they only look for ONE particular egg inside a basket.
but when one look at % Quality passes:
they focus on entire P6 cohort batch, not just one Top student only.
they look at ALL the eggs inside the basket.
good egg, poor egg, average egg - every single egg is evaluated inside the basket.
Not all parents bother which school comes under what top 10 list. Hence, they don’t bother about the Top 10 primary school academy list you mention. Like what ksi commented, some parents look for Holistic aspect in education, not pure academics. To them, they view it more important than academics. To this, I fully agree.
Did I mention anywhere that SCGS is one of the top 10 schools ? No, I didn’t.
Did i mention SCGS top PSLE score ? No, I didn't.
I happen to post figures that SCGS did exceedingly well in 2011, is commendable & post her “Quality Passes in 4 subjects.” ... to give you some idea.
After posting, some one else remark that well, 2011 is only 1 year. Can’t conclude just like that. This I also agree: suggest one has to look further, ie. collect minimal 5 years trend results, observe the trend for consistency proven in SCGS results, not just look at one year only (2011).
however, out of so many primary schools in SG so far, why are SCGS and St Nick handpicked by MOE to kick start 2013 IP Track next year ? Why MOE didn't pick other school ? I think this speak a lot. -
2011
SCGS compare with ACS Junior (% Quality passes) : –
perform better, in all 4 subjects.
English: SCGS (91.2 %) win ACS Junior (82.3 %)
Chinese: SCGS (89.3 %) win ACS Junior (79.1 %)
Science: SCGS (82 %) win ACS Junior (74.2 %)
Maths: SCGS (68.6 %) win ACS Junior (66.9 %)

Very well said.Have been following this post for days now and it's interesting to witness the revelation of the human facade. I understand the stresses and anxiety as i'm due for balloting myself, in a few days too. But as i was getting caught up in the 'voices in my head' syndrome, something struck me. \"If it's meant to be, it will be\". religious or atheist alike will at some point agree that SOME things just happen and are NOT in our control. Call it fate, destiny or serendipity, but things happen, no matter how we try to fight and take things into our own hands. I applaud all parents here who have 'moved heaven and earth' and make relentless efforts for the good of their children, its incredible, truly. But after all that, there's nothing else we can do. I'm pretty certain that the schools and MOE are not blind to the iniquities involved and i'm even more certain that what goes around comes around... Maybe in the midst of our eagerness and well-intentions, we lose sight of what truly matter-\"Everything happens for a reason\".
We all want the best for our children, but life is also unfair and it's something we need to grapple with and in the process teach our children how to deal with it. Propitious or not, we have to face it like adults and deal with what life throws at us with full strength...
Here's wishing all of you the very best of luck and life

I m sure there re many parents like me have been reading posts but not commenting.
Years back, i went thru 2c registration at SCGS and in the room, there was a very upset couple. lamenting there re ppl they know who only rented a place and not staying in it. They challenged the staff to go investigate every single one of the applicants.
The staff explained that they can't do that, but advised them to notify moe since they mentioned they KNEW such cheaters.
I was taken aback by their strong reactions. wondering if there was a need for such vengeance/hatred in the air.
as expected we went thru balloting, within 1km @ 2c. those days before the balloting day were long n tough.
after balloting, i happened to find out the couple who made so much noise in the room that day, too rented an apt to get into 1km. The difference is they stayed but moved out when lease ended.
I can't help but to think the pot calling kettle black. However I am thankful my girl got in, and that yr, it was a 50+ seats with 60+ applicants within 1km.
please be prepared to go thru balloting, i really dont thk it is possible to skip it this yr.
My girl was picked @ 50% of the balloting. i almost teared. As parents we are blessed to have the courage (to take such stress & balloting-heart attack) and foresight (in picking affiliated sch). SO let's show our kids what it is to 'come what may, we are ready to face the storm'.
Moving forward, i hope they will not scrape the alumni girls' rights which some readers are writing in to ST forum for (sickening). I told my girl putting her in scgs is the only inheritance I am leaving her for her daughter. And before she seriously consider her mate, please marry someone frm gd sch so her son will have phase 2a rights. (pls dont stone me for being realistic). I foresee the registration many yrs to come will be worse.
All the best parents, you can do it. Do your kids proud!
