      Thanks all for the advice.

When he got back his result last night, I tried to have a good talk with him and he told me not to mention anything anymore, he knows what to do. Then he went into his room doing his school work (??) and half-way he told me he wanted an album for his playing card (!!!)

I've tried many methods, but none is working. Perhaps I should really hands off and let him fail his PSLE and really learn a lesson....? However, it's so difficult for me to let go....
Do not give up. Have a heart to heart talk. They are so young to know the consequences. We can not let them just go and learn the lesson just like that.

Sometimes we do need to let kids learn their lesson and about consequences. However, IMO PSLE may not be one of these lesson......while it's not end of the world, it's definitely gonna impact him emotionally if he sees his friends moving on while he stays back. Try your best.....at least, at the end of it, you know you have tried and as for your son, even if he did not do well, he will know that you did not give up on him.

We wont want them to go look for comfort elsewhere - take drugs, go into bad company , etc...

Base on your son's mock exam result (70s), he will not fail his PSLE. Might risk going to normal stream. However, he should be able to do better if he is motivated to do so. All parents hope their kids could do their best in PSLE & get into a better school. But it takes 2 hands to clap. How far can you push him if he does not bother to try? As parents, we can only try our best to communicate, encourage & motivate them. At the end of the day, the kids must be willing to study hard for themselves & their future. But sometime, it is difficult for them to be so far sighted.

My child knows the strategies and technique. Somehow he is not motivated but just thinking about play and play and still play. He even claimed that he is doing a lot whereas others are not (?!)

I don't think the papers are difficult as I heard some children got A*. It's his problem per se.

We are in the same boat. He has been playing with his toys a great deal of late :faint: beyblade etc etc. The other day, he told me his friend went to Universal Studios...why can't he ???

Maybe he is just taking a short break to de stress himself. Just like my boy loves to read before he does his homework. As long as he gets back to his work then should be OK. Tell him that you will bring him to Universal Studio after PSLE to motivate him. Anyway, we don't want them to stress out during this period right? Janet, just relax. Everything will turn out fine.

Hugs to you. I don't have a son and while I know girls are different, this is what I did with my DD. Instead of telling her what to do, I asked her: Come November, when you see your result slip... what do you want to see?

After she answers, I say: what you do now will decide the November outcome. You can do nothing now and then cry in November while most others rejoice or you can do something now to make sure you get what you want.

It's hard for kids to visualise consequences... and most kids will want instant rather than delayed gratification.

Hope it works out for you and your DS.

Same to your child too ! πŸ˜‰

Thank you fighting mom. But my DD is in P3 only. I closely watch this thread to have a feel and better control over my DD in three years time as I am new to this Singapore system.
