Is not uncommon for the entire cohort not to fare well in their mid-term exam be it yr5(jc1) or yr6(jc2). Some jcs set killer papers to shake up the students.

For econs, the national distinction rate for 2011 A-levels is slightly above 38% with so many good science and arts students striving for it. So one needs to be way above average in the entire A-levels cohort to do well. I also notice last yr exam was more challenging than the past 4 yrs.

      Just hve to keep improving.

Yup, I guess you are right.
During my days in JC many many years ago, it was also liddat.
Most of us got Bs and Cs or even Ds for our school exams.
But when it came to the actual A level, we managed to score As.

          Thanks for your advice.

One of my DD's classmate failed all of the subjects except GP.

Imagine she was doing quite well in secondary. Poor Girl!

So I think time management & self-discipline is very, very important.

To be exact, should be 37.8%

                Hi Angmum

My dd is in Y5, she does not wan to take Econ
as she mentioned Econ is a tough subject to score A in A level.
She had surveyed last 2 years A level results and found that the whole
cohort incl elite school did not do well for Econ.
                although her maths is good.

So she rather skip that subject and focus point entry for Uni
although she might not stand better chance to go into Business.
Thanks Sallysara for yr sharing as a senior high parent.....
So what is yr DD subj combination ?
But if skip Econs, not advisable if my gal intends to go to Biz schools.

Competition for desired courses in our unis are so keen every yr that A-level students are talking only about A & B grades. C,D & E grades though pass spell disaster.

Here are the tell tale signs that a good econs student exihibits in his/her yr1-4 jh/sec1-4:

                    A) A decent grade in A maths though may not be particularly strong for an arts student ie A2 at O-levels.

                    B) Strong grade in social studies

                    C) Strong inclination in either hist/geog/eng lit.

If a student doesnโ€™t demonstrate all of the above, better to choose an alternative humanities subject and take it at a lower level ie H1.
