Why is it that every thread has to denigrate to govt/PAP bashing ?PAP elitism is not just about \"amplifying the glorious achievements of leadership but also about amplifying the inadequacies of ordinary Singaporeans. Ordinary Singaporeans are never good enough for the leadership - I often wonder if one of the favorite past-time of our leaders is to lament the deficiencies of lesser mortal Singaporeans and how to stick the spurs into their hide.\"

This is what dilutes their flaw, if you keep pointing finger for each and everything, it makes one believe lesser and lesser.
Weihan,
If needed may you can start a new thread (not that it would be new really)

Why do you think that it is \"denigrating\" and it is \"bashing\"? Did anything changes in the past few decades when nobody even dare to question them? There are hardcores who won't believe even if they are presented with figures but hardcores are just hardcores..let them be and just be patient.

I think more people are believing from my experience. -
In Yahoo forums, already seen so many bad comments about PRC. Good thing posting in Yahoo forums, if get a personal attack, the person who posted also won’t know because the forums scroll very fast. 2 hrs later, don’t even know where is own comment.
Must depend of PRC for business and boost up the economy mah?
Any restaurants who is PRC boss, don’t support. Saw one Penang Tradition Food in Ang Mo Kio. Thought a real Penang people who opened the shop. Who knows all are PRC even the person preparing the laksa. Not nice at all. -
I don’t know if it is because we are lucky or what, we actually encounter very nice PRC.
We know of a PRC who genuinely want to be friend. The nanny will buy a dress for my 3 years old niece whenever she return from China. Almost same design as her granddaughter. Not airy and will share her sadness with my mother when she thinks that her daughter-in-law has not respected her and understand her.
I think environment changes people. Decades of communist control changes people at the sub-fundamental level. I believe people everywhere are fundamentally the same. -

Not all foreigners has problem with us, and most of them are working hard to get along with us as well.
Personal views on the issue, and hope people do understand the importance of Respect & Understanding.

Most of the PRCs I know are also pretty nice people. They have their quirks and may be louder compared to most of us but once you get to know them, they are generally decent people. Most of them have mostly good things to say about us. They like our honesty but also say they are hearing more and more resentment. They criticise their own countrymen for their unbecoming behaviour and know why Singaporeans are getting impatient with PRCs. Most of them say they come here to get away from such behaviour and culture and will be sad to see Singapore becoming like what they are trying to eave behind.

concern2:
Maybe we should ask what happened to those that chose to speak up? Even those that chose to care more about the society and did some social, charitable work got labelled as reactionary and a threat to the authority such that they were retained by ISD.
Generally, I think Singaporeans are a very accepting lot, understanding to the extent of being gullible and trusting, we go about minding our own business to the extent that it can be viewed as apathetic and uncaring - and certainly, passive. But I can see this trend changing. Many more are speaking up as the resentment builds. I do wonder how bad it will get before something sparks the reverse, or worst.Mawar:
At a gathering recently, some new residents remarked that they don't see Singapore as a country. Meaning a place that has a soul with a special identity and a deep rooted group of people who will defend it. They see it as an interesting and efficient place to work and live for awhile. They see us as a relatively passive lot whose sole existence is to prop up the infrastructure.
