Our car - Honda stream has been detected with air con compressor problem. Kah motor said need $1.5k to change.does it sound right?

      Am driving the RSZ.
      Find us at http://www.hondastream.org
As far as I understand, some bros got it sorted for about $800. Go in there and ask, you'd get a very specific answer and recommendations.

How old is your Stream? Is it second hand?
Again, I'd go to two places... Autosaver and Mova. Mova used to be in a/c business as I understand so expertise is there. Otherwise, Autosaver is the other place that is as good as the AD.

Consider if your car is under warranty and if you want to \"break it\".

All the best and good weekend!

Just to get some opinions from the drivers here.

Do you change everything that the mechanic suggests? How do you judge whether it is necessary to change the parts?

I usually will change based on what the mechanic says if the change will not cost me an arm and a leg. I will also keep all my receipts from day 1 so that I can refer back to my receipt when mechanic ask me when when I change this and how long I used that …

whatever they say change, change, after all it is free, under warranty

one month before the warranty is up, make appointment for major servicing to ensure they go over comprehensively to ensure nothing needs replacing the moment warranty is over

It depends on a few things...
                Firstly, is the mech/workshop reliable?
                Secondly, is it about time?

Like peapot, and possibly more \"mad\"... I track all my servicings and actually instruct the mechs. But then this takes some effort to learn about basic maintenance first.

For some, it also depends if they are going to keep the car longer or not...
I always treat it as I will keep for very long, but I know some who do not really care as they plan to change every few years ( until COE pops ).

Last thing you might like to do if unsure... Ask in a forum, where likeminded or enthusiasts hang out. Good place to get advice. Otherwise, go to another workshop for a second opinion.

Maybe you can read this article on importance of regular servicing of your car: http://www.singaporecarservicing.com/articles/regular-car-servicing-is-essential.html

                  Quite comprehensive.

:yikes: mine is not a stream but $1.5k sounds expensive. We changed our aircon compressor for $800.

No. Usually the authorized agent's mechanics will come up with a \"to do\" list and my hubby will assess before giving the go ahead. But he has some formal training in car mechanic/repair works so he probably can assess better than an average car owner.

But so far, we are really happy with the authorized agent mechanics. Even the cashier will advise us when to sign package...

The only time we turn to someone else was when the batt was going flat. So boh pian, got it changed at one of those mechanic shops at petrol station.

Anyone has any tips on how we can prolong the life of the battery?

Someone told me before - off the sound system/head lights/aircon etc first then off engine. The rationale is to reduce the shock factor when the engine is turned on again. Got such thing?
