The balloting is finally over for TN. Of the 74 applicants that stayed within 1 Km, 1 is PR. Hence at the end, only 73 vying for 53. Out of the 53, the triplet got in. My DD is one of the lucky 53 too. Thank God!

Always thought that Ngee Ann would overpass TKPS any time...but this year's P1 registration show otherwise??
one reason this year Tanjong Katong is hot could be due to spillover efffect from Kong Hwa. ie. their initial target was KH, but last minute realize that many seats had been taken up and balloting seems inevitable, so start to divert attention towards TKPS (if their child is a boy).
But if their child is a girl, they've 2nd choice school - can be Haig Girls or TKPS. Notice that at end of Phase 2C: both Haig Girls and TKPS seats fully snapped up fast ! Feng shui has changed, wef this year. Wind direction blowing differently. In the past, both TKPS and Haig Girls were schools that still have lot of vacancies in 2C Supp. But this year :-
TKPS: 121 vacancies, 138 registered (demand soar like stock market)
http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/vacancies/#marine-parade
Haig Girls: 108 vacancies, 117 registered (overwhelming demand)
http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/vacancies/#geylang
Besides KH, these parents who turn to TKPS may also come from some other schools that encounter similar issue. Phase 2C turn out was nerve wrecking.
i) more schools enter into balloting this year
ii)
more vacancies are taken up at less popular schools, compared to past history.
a fair number of those unsuccessful at Tao Nan balloting will also likely be <1km Ngee Ann. If they fail to ballot in at Tao Nan, Ngee Ann can be their 2nd choice school. -

I chose KH at P2B because this was the only school I qualified during that phrase via being clan members for past 10 years and I lived within 1KM from KH. If I was successful at P2B, then I don't have bother with the registration anymore. Unfortunately, it didn't turn as planned so I had to waste time again going through P2C. My aim at Phrase P2C is to secure a placed at School near my home on very day of application and not to wait for another week for the ballot results and also the need to mentally prepared for possibility of going through registration at P2CS. To me this absolutely waste of time. Hence, KH is definitely fall out of my choice at P2C. Within 1km, there is two other good schools which would I almost confirm to secure a place at P2C i.e. TKPS or GMPS. I finally decided to go for TKPS for the following reasons:
1. Positive Feedback from parents who kids currently enrolled in TKPS.
2. Positive Feedback from K-garden teachers where my kid studies
3. I loves its location at Katong
4. TKPS has quite number of PRs. These PRs mostly comes well educated background which I believe they would also motivate their kids to do well in school.
5. TKPS has produced a quite number of good students at 2011 PSLE.
I totally concur with ChiefKiasu’s advice below:

Our advice to parents is that if we really have a second choice school that we are sure to get a place in Phase 2C, just go for it in Phase 2C. Resist the temptation of trying to get that elusive vacancy in one of the incredibly popular schools. In the best case, we will be feeling like we have won Toto, which, of course, feels great. But in most cases, we don't always win Toto, and we may end up with neither our 1st nor 2nd choice schools.

When I lodged my application at TKPS on 1st August 2012, TKPS staff told me that the chances is very high since we are SCs and within 1km and told us that that orientation date is somewhere in Nov and asked me to bring along my son to meet with his teachers and classmates!!
Our whole family went for a good celebration at night and look forward to bring my kid for a tour at his new school in November this year! Many Thanks to Chiefkaisu for the above advice!! -
