        zeemini,

i think the best/only way is to refer this particular principal to MOE. He/she then will have to provide the reasons for admitting the child in. After that... we will all have to accept the outcome of the investigation, i'm sure 🙂

Looks like this only happens on this thread. ( i may be wrong though) I got into it for some info on SJIJ and i got hooked. Actually all was fine and there were plain, healthy discussions going on until threats starting flying in the horizon... oh well.. 🙂 But on another note, it made me pretty sure i won't be admitting my daughter into SCGS in 2014. Too much stress and looking at the property development around the area, it will be too risky!

All the best to you, if you're in the balloting team 🙂
nah .... i'm past p1 registration already. now just a spectator. :imcool:

I have a child in SCGS.

Actually, I vaguely remember that last year there were fewer applicants than available places for P1 applicants in phase 2C. I though it strange then… So all 2C applicants got in, even if they were outside 2km. I think the remaining places were given to applicants who took the entrance test.

But its "beat down the doors" popularity this year is even stranger. I’m quite sure the school did not produce the top PSLE student last year, though last year’s cohort has done well as a group. An SCGS alumnus is in London representing Singapore at the Olympics now. Could this be the reason?

I am also an alumnus of the school. I always felt that SCGS encouraged team work, generosity especially to other less fortunate, and frowned upon an overt "stab em in the back" competitive spirit. I think I still see such traits generally encouraged by the school, with the full support of most of the parents I speak to in school.

I hope that parents look to the overall character development and characteristics each school promotes when choosing a school for their children, and not just at the academic achievement of past cohorts.

Last year, in SCGS, there was 43 places. All living within 1 km of the school who applied got in. There was no balloting.

                    Hi edgrace,

There is discussion on how to prevent \"cheat' in other thread:
                    http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18535&start=1360

                    edgrace:
                    Just a thought:
Instead of fighting a 'lost cause' we can use this forum to brainstorm ideas how we can prevent 'cheats' instead. This way, we can suggest these ideas to the relevant authorities should anyone decide to write in.

Here's an idea i had.. Make changing addresses at the NPP more stringent. Anyone can change the address on one bill. Maybe we can suggest that prove of home ownership/rental is required during the process? So we can avoid people from using friends' addresses... As for people MOVING IN one year, one month, one week or even one day before registration... Gee, that's going to be a tough one. It may be immoral, but legally, there's no discrepancies there...

                    Any ideas anyone?

Steamystream wise choice.... Come to smps, great school as well. Your girl will love it there trust me. It's really much of a muchness between scgs and smps, so far smps looks far less competitive. Don't regret later when you are stuck choosing between BHPS or First Tayoh. Those are really 3rd rate schools. Smps v scgs very marginal difference. Both schools produce young ladies who grow up to be high flying professionals and well rounded mothers. That's more than I can say about plan C schools.

You are very noble. :scratchhead: You are registering SMPS under P2C and you are calling parents to join you. I belive now SMPS needs ballot right? :frustrated: Or you have switched to SCGS? 😂

most of the residents staying < 1km from SCGS, are they located less than 2 km, or > 2km from St Margaret ?
