      edgrace,

how does moe sniff out principals who extend favours? i know of kids getting into this popular school along the bt timah belt at the end of the year, after all the p1 registration fiasco is over. they have no clan / church associations nor PV and they stay >2km away. The only association i can think of is these kids have parent(s) who know the school P in some way.

The school can always say there were withdrawals at the end of the year and they have the discretion to admit any other students.

It's pretty difficult to track right?

like you, i'm also pretty amused with the hype in this thread. does it only happen to this thread? :siam:
      zeemini,

i think the best/only way is to refer this particular principal to MOE. He/she then will have to provide the reasons for admitting the child in. After that... we will all have to accept the outcome of the investigation, i'm sure 🙂

Looks like this only happens on this thread. ( i may be wrong though) I got into it for some info on SJIJ and i got hooked. Actually all was fine and there were plain, healthy discussions going on until threats starting flying in the horizon... oh well.. 🙂 But on another note, it made me pretty sure i won't be admitting my daughter into SCGS in 2014. Too much stress and looking at the property development around the area, it will be too risky!

All the best to you, if you're in the balloting team 🙂

I will help my DS to score 220 or more to enter SCGS or RGS than. No need balloting. If no primary for SCGS, aim for secondary for SCGS or RGS.

220 Cut off point (COP) applies to SCGS primary school pupils only, affliated to SCGS Secondary.

if your child is an outsider (ie. come from other primary schools) but keen to join SCGS Secondary, child need to have minimal basic COP around 25X.

as such, the difference of > 30 points makes SCGS primary very attractive and appealing to parents. It is already very hard to score 1 extra point, let alone ... more than 30 over points in PSLE score. Hence, such a fierce, keen competition fight to enter into SCGS now. This discounted 30 over points give SCGS primary pupils the \"privilege\" / added advantage, to enter SCGS Sec.

        for outsiders :-
        - 25X is the minimal COP to enter SCGS Secondary GCE O level track.

        - to enter SCGS Integrated Programme track (starting from next year, 2013 Sec 1 cohort), the COP will be raised even much higher. Nearer the time to November / Dec year end, it'll be disclosed to public.

to enter RGSS, it is even much tougher - minimal basic COP expected is around 26X.

I have a child in SCGS.

Actually, I vaguely remember that last year there were fewer applicants than available places for P1 applicants in phase 2C. I though it strange then… So all 2C applicants got in, even if they were outside 2km. I think the remaining places were given to applicants who took the entrance test.

But its "beat down the doors" popularity this year is even stranger. I’m quite sure the school did not produce the top PSLE student last year, though last year’s cohort has done well as a group. An SCGS alumnus is in London representing Singapore at the Olympics now. Could this be the reason?

I am also an alumnus of the school. I always felt that SCGS encouraged team work, generosity especially to other less fortunate, and frowned upon an overt "stab em in the back" competitive spirit. I think I still see such traits generally encouraged by the school, with the full support of most of the parents I speak to in school.

I hope that parents look to the overall character development and characteristics each school promotes when choosing a school for their children, and not just at the academic achievement of past cohorts.
