      2. Nanyang Primary School\t
Balloting will be conducted for SC children residing within 1km of the school.

      3. Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School
\tBalloting will be conducted for SC children residing within 1km of the school.

      4. \tRaffles Girls’ Primary School\t

        sagacious.sg:
I guess for most of the top schools, by the end of Day 2 the parents will have already known that the no. of applicants for <1km has exceeded the vacancies. They are probably \"hoping\" that some parents < 1 km will give up the fight and go for another school instead, which unfortunately did not materialise. What I cannot fathom is that those 1-2 km did not withdraw, wasting their one and only chance to apply for a mid-tier school instead, which guarantees entry for SC. In the end, they do not get to ballot and have to settle for their 3rd or 4th choice schools. This is a real pity.

IMHO, by the time number of applicants <1km exceeded the available vacancy or next distance categpry, the school ought to take initiative to quickly inform those (be it SC or PR) who applied earlier and are beyond the distance category so that the affected parents will have ample time to react and opt for their subsequent choice and not let their chance lapse until pass 4:30pm on last day of registration.

Sometime things just happen at the last minute giving everyone no time to react.

I think this happened to one popular school but I just cant remember which one.

          Eg, vacancies 50

          Application for the 3 days as at 3.45 pm is 47 (within 1km), 3 (within 1 - 2km).

At 4.15 pm, all it need is to have 4 more living within 1 km to drop by to register. 🤷

Not only do The parents living within 1-2km have no time to switch school, the school also has no time to inform these parents. Plus those living within 1 km have to ballot.

Well the obvious solution is to phase the registration by distance. If filled by <1km families, close the list. Etc.

                  It’s not rocket science.

phase 2a is the only phase whereby kids living outside 1 km has a chance to get in.

as of now, places in many schools (phase 2b and 2c and also phase 1) are already taken up by those living within 1km. those living outside 1km are already getting the crumbs.

thus if every phase is to go by distance, what would those living outside be getting?

If priority is for kids to attend nr by school, then won’t removing phase 2 create more vacancy for also those stay slightly further? Just some thots.

Perhaps the groups in phase 2a have to be split up cos phase 2 a is not just about alumni. 😄

those in moe who have to find ways to improve the system , headache. :faint:
