Also note that a lot of children are involved in the ndp one way or another. The day after national day holiday is good for these group of students so they miss out on lessons.
8th August, National celebration.. no classes..

9th August, PH.
10th August Holiday..
So shiok to work in schools..

U sure? If I am not wrong, they only can go on leave during school holiday leh. Good meh? Normal days kid sick also cannot on leave....

I'm willing to trade 14days AL (can take anytime) for 10 weeks paid leave (can take only during sch holiday, minus a few days of extra duties). And that 10 weeks is excluding extra holidays like 10th August, youth day etc..
fyi, some professions/jobs can't even take leave during sch holidays! want to bring kids go holiday also cannot. To be on leave with the kids holidays is a wonderful thing by itself.. isn't it? before even factoring in the duration.
you feel thus way probably because you have schooling kids. Mine is preschooler, being able to on leave anytime I need is far more impt than having 10weeks of leave which I can take only during stipulated period. Who is going to take care of my child if he can't go to cc?

Have you all thought of the teachers who have school children but yet can’t apply leave to attend their child’s school activities?

if kids holiday but parent working then of coz no good lor.. kids all alone.. no sch to attend.. and missing lessons.. got difference..

you will have schooling kids too.. soon..

Anyway, I would prefer longer rest althou it is more rigid. You may prefer flexible but significantly less rest days. you are of coz entitled to your preference.. that is absolutely ok.

btw, do note the teacher have 14day AL too, on top of the sch holidays.

of coz, they can't take leave at their whims and fancy, like going on planned holidays..

But if it is urgent cases like what you said, need to look after kids bcoz cc not open etc.. surely the principle would approve.. isn't it? It is already stated on MOE website that teacher have 14days AL (excluding sch holidays) for urgent matters.

That's another problem with schools.. they like to organise activities during weekdays..

If they can have activities on weekends.. like carnivals, meet the parents etc.. This wouldn't be an issue..

Agree, activities are on weekdays; it would be nice to have some on the weekends.

I recall all school weekend activities were removed after our PM avocated the need for work-life balance...for civil services..
