      Xxxx,

      I agree with you too.

The earlier phases have taken up many seats eg alumni and siblings or parents during in that particular school of choice.

Take a look at Henry park and ACS primary, only less than 20 vacancies for phase 2b and 2c each.
      Fully agreed.

Guessed we have to accept that there are many resourceful parents who are old boys/girls of the schools, teachers, church/clan members, RC people, Parent volunteers, who put in more EFFORT to place their children in their preferred schools in Phase 2 (a step earlier than Phase 2C parents). I would hope that MOE can reserve 40-50% lots for 2C children from the Original pool.

(PS. Data calculated from MOE website.
I will attend ballot session on Aug 7, 9am).

Depends on the vacancies available, right?

Balloting for School A will be over in 5 minutes if the school only has 1 vacancies whereas balloting for School B needs longer time if the school has more than 100 vahow cancies.
How the balloting carry on? Computerized or manually. How to ensure our child name was  in the lists for balloting. Thanks

as the balloting process continue on actual balloting Day (Tues 7 August), names of kids successfully balloted in will be hung onto a white board, one by one, side by side each other - as the name of each child is drawn out via \"Lucky draw\" dip, by a guest of honour called upon to come right up to the front, to conduct start \"Lucky draw\".

after whole balloting process completed -
the P1 registration officers on duty will issue forms to parents whose kids successfully balloted in. After filling up form(s) on the spot inside the balloting room packed with parents, then submit forms back to the Officer, there and then on the spot. Some schools may inform parents when is the Orientation day.

if your child is balloted out, the Officer will not give out any such form to parents.

on 7 August, do not bring child. The balloting room is fully packed with parents, P1 duty officers, Principal, etc. Phase 2C balloting atmosphere is very tense. Some may even turn emotional.

How long does the balloting exercise last? If balloting starts at 9 AM, what time will they complete it? Should I take a full day off for this or a half day off is okay?

            you're now in Phase 2C.
is better to apply full day leave.
in the event child not balloted in, you may need time in case you wish to recky other schools, for Phase 2C Supp.

but if child gets balloted in, you can bring family out to celebrate.

This part, i'm not too sure. It is best to call up school and inquire.
it is best to go down and witness balloting personally yourself.

last year in one school, the names of 2 Chinese kids sound very similar.
The school nearly missed out - putting the name of one child onto the white board. The balloting room was noisy, with many parents talking at the back because their child just balloted in, so the few couple walk to the back & in their joy, chit chat loudly.

because the names of these 2 Chinese kids sounded very similar / almost sound alike to each other, everyone in the room including the Officer thought the name of 2nd child - had already been drawn. So he was about to dip his hands into \"Lucky draw box\" for the name of the next new child, when suddenly the mother of the 2nd child shouted in the nick of time, \"Stop ! You just called out my child's name !\"

if this mother had been sleeping, not paying attention - that's it.
Thus is better to go down physically, witness whole process yourself, and stay alert.

Not all schools use the paper slips method. Some use something like the lottery cage. IMPO, this is a better method as it will prevent any misunderstanding/disputes from arising due to similar names.

how does the lottery cage work ?

is it like … the cage roll and roll then a marble drop out … means name of that child is in ?

can share which school(s) use lottery cage method ?

Balloting is done manually. Parents whose children are not picked would cry foul if the system were computerised.

Usually, a school management committee will be present for the balloting process to ensure that all the children's names are in order. Parents who attend the balloting are also invited to go through the slips of paper and help to ensure that every child's name is there.

What some schools do is, regardless of the outcome of the balloting, you will be sent a carbon copy of the application form that you completed during the registration. The form will indicate whether your child is successful or unsuccessful. It will also indicate the date and time of orientation.
