I don't see a problem with renting if one can afford it and plan to live in it. What is wrong with that? It's not cheating. I think it's better than those 2A1s and 2A2s who live in Pasir Ris and their kids get up at 5.30am to get to MGS on time.phtthp:
roughly, how much is average rental charges per month in those condo near MGS < 1km ?
You can go property guru and check but bare in mind that even 5rm HDB flats are renting about $3000 a month now.
Anyway, rental average within 1km of MGS is around $4,500 per month but there's nothing stopping cheats from renting just the address or even a room. How are they going to check? The only way to get found out is by a whistleblower.
There was a case in 2007 where a lawyer was jailed for, amongst other fraudulent activities, renting a condo \"address\" at Maplewoods (family did not stay there) and sending his daughter to MGS. Because he was in trouble for other things as well, the school was alerted and realized the address he used was also used for another child. So what had happened was the address was rented out twice and he got caught. His poor daughter who had already been in the school for 4 years or something had to transfer out.
Really pity the girl...it's not her fault. -

Totally agree with that.

Also, I think parents need to wake up to the reality of Singapore education.
1. MGS, ACS, Nanyang, SCGS, RGPS - these schools are located in expensive neighborhoods. I do not think there are even any HDBs within 1km. Considering 70% of Singaporeans live in government housing…what is this telling you?
2. If schools are positioned to service children within the school area (address) does that not tell you that these schools are targetting a certain socio-economic segment of society?
3. So those parents who are always complaining that these schools will soon only be filled up with more affluent kids ought to consider (and think) that perhaps its these peope that the schools actually want to attract (notwithstanding those with special skills and talents).
4. Look at the CCAs offered and the facilities compared with your average neighborhood schools…do you think these came as a gift from the govt/MOE? They are actually donations from parents and $1000 per seat fundraising dinners.
I’m not saying its right, I’m not saying its wrong…I’m saying that’s the way it is in Singapore. If everthing was fair and equal we’d be living in a communist country…and even then, some will always be more equal than others. -

there's actually at least 8 blocks of HDB flats within 1 km of NYPS, but these flats are rarely for sale on the market , owners are keeping it for good. Also, I think parents need to wake up to the reality of Singapore education.

These 8 Blks of HDB flats are located in prime CCR district 10. Surely owners are keeping for good. Look how much neighboring private apartment are going for $psf -

I was one of those who got balloted out in 2B MGS but eventually got in under 2C balloting. Towards the last few balls to be picked it was quite tensed, as both twins balls had not been picked. A better result would have been a twin ball being picked last, instead of second last, cos that would mean that the available number of places got increased by 1.. Anyway, I am just so relieved that after two rounds of balloting my daughter finally got into MGS!
