Would expect viewership to soar for NDP then - at least for the first half.

What does it says about Singapore politics?

The fact that the decease of a country strong man has to be kept secret for awhile and the fact that it can be a point of speculation says very much about our politics.

There is usually no needs for such secrecy and such secrecy is never important in mature democratic society because power is usually distributed and well balanced instead of being concentrated in 1-2 person like in 3rd world countries such as China and North Korea.

The reason for such secrecy is for the successor to capture crucial power before the fact is announced. It also means that there are rival factions competing for successing power. is this the case for Singapore?

No lah, Wei Han, the fact is that this is a speculation until proven right. 😆

You should get what I meant. I mean even the fact that it is worth a point of secrecy. I don't mean that LKY has already left us. And yes...in many autocracies, the decease of a strong man has to kept secret for sometimes until the successor has already captured the crucial power (usually is the control of the military).

so far it is just a rumour…

but well, we are not talking about just anyone right?

i am sure the governement in every country will do the same thing. the procedures, the matters to handle, the people to contact, the many arrangements to be made are while may be similar to what the commom people have to do, the magnitude of the task is jusst different.

hidden agenda? power struggle? i doubt so.
