Mummies with child in this school? How do you find the school so far? I read up abt them via their website and impressed with it. Very precise and well informed. I also do heard that after change of principal the school’s getting better. Any personal inputs?

Hi ADave,

My DS is in P1 this year, so far, he is enjoying school very much and I am happy with his development. The school's PAL program is quite established since JWPS was selected as one of the pioneer school to start PAL. They learn music, gym and right now, he is onto outdoor education. They will subsequently learn to pitch a tent etc...

Re CCAs, pretty good range and this year, the school achieves SYF Gold with Honours for their Chinese Dance.. and Silver, Bronze for Malay Dance, Band etc.. My DS will be going for Robotic Club in P3.

The school emphasies a lot on Character Development which I think it's good.

As for PSLE results, it's improving over the years, and I do heard that with the change in the P couple of years back, there were many new additions. Apparently (from what I heard from the \"senior\" parents), this current P is pretty hands on and approachable. As you can see from the school's website, there are 21 students that scored 250 and above for last year's PSLE, and the top was 273. Understand from the Principal, this top gal did not go for any external tuitions, she relied on the school's teachers and of course, her hard work.

My DS was trf to JWPS after I placed him on waitlist. Lucky for him, he was trf over just before the term started this Jan. Will be enrolling my No.2 there next year too. Well, I am eyeing the BASC that will be ready soon.

The school will be completing the upgrading soon, and I hope they will go single session in 2014 when my no. 2 enters P1.

Oh yes, just to add on, in terms of homework they have, it’s manageable, about 3-4 times per week for all subjects. But again, it’s depends on teachers. Weekly spellings for both English and MT.


For P1, they have term tests in each term, written and alternative assessments. Meet parents sessions are conducted when we were to collect their report book at the end of 2nd term.

Occasionally, there will be PAL performance, Speech and Drama concert by the students.

lakesidemum, thank you!! i kinda really like this PAL programme. I find that its effective and good exposure for the child to learn different traits. Fun too!


The more i read abt jurong west primary, the more i like it. u see, me and my hubby always debate between "new" and "old’ school. he is keen towards enrolling my DS nxt yr to Westwood Pri. I went to the soft launch, not bad but again, its very raw. No CCA, no track records…so i told him its like taking a risk. either it work out well or not. As much as we parents play a bigger role in the child’s education, still school and teachers do play a factor. Else why those hot schools are really sought after right?

There are many reasons why some parents would go for new schools, but as far as we (my hubby and myself) concerned, we will never opt for new schools. As you mentioned, they are too raw, without track records and structure to fall back on.

In any case, both of you will have to settle for a decision subsequently. New schools engaged in lots of "advertisements" to promote the schools, at the end of the day, it’s all up the parents, are you convinced by them?

Welcome to JWPS.

Yes, normally, you can buy both the books & uniforms during orientation, but can be pretty crowded on that day.

The uniforms can be purchased from the vendor's shop in JE, while books from Popular.
