DD is having prelims these 2 days. Yesterday was English, today is maths. Don't understand why the school sets prelims 2 days before the PSLE oral!

Same here. & this is prelim #2. DS completed prelim #1 during 2nd-3rd week of July.
But whatever it is, no point complaining, all schools will have their own reason to do things. Just have faith that school knows what they are doing & give our kids the support they need. Told DS, as long as you have done your part, whatever exams is just a revision......try your best & learn from mistakes.

DS prelim result is out for Math and Science paper very bordline marks like low 60 and 70 for both subjects respectively. From his body language knowing that he lost confident and so do I.

I am lost  as I want to control my evil words :stompfeet: but it so hard to control.

Now, I don't know how to sit with him for his PSLE battle. :stupid:
Have a time-out. Calm yourself down and prepare yourself how you want to talk to your ds. We won't want to say anything that we regret later and cruel words said in a fit of anger cut them deep. The last thing we want is to see our kids totally give up on themselves.

Do what you can control now , that is, go through section by section which area he is still weak in. For Maths, if it is geometry/ circles/ speed, then work on more questions relating to that topic. For Science, is it section A or B that he is losing marks. Work on that section. If it is purely losing marks due to not being careful, then try to emphasis to him this ,\" EVERY mark counts in any exam including PSLE.\"

What we are teaching our kids is not just skills on how to pass PSLE, but life skills on how to deal with setbacks when they encounter later in their lives. Yes, setback now ... No problem, I allow myself to wallow for a day or two then I shall pick myself up and move on to make tomorrow counts. Build that resilience in them. Remember the past does not equate to the future.

All the best to you and your ds ! :rahrah:

Is it "safe" to say that oral topics that appear in past psle will not appear again? Of course last year’s topics will definitely not surface, but what about other years? Ds tuitor ask him to practise those not discussed in the psle booklet, saying that those past topics will unlikely to be tested again. However, his sch teacher gave them a stack of suggested answers to past psle oral topics. It will definitely take him hours to read them, and I wonder will it do more harm to his already limited brain capacity?
Hi, does anyone know of parents who quit their jobs or took a leave of absence just so they can help their child with PSLE preparations? Please email me at [email protected].

My relatives were just asking me over the weekend whether I'll be taking leave next month for my dd's PSLE. They said that many of their colleagues (even fathers) with PSLE kids this year have applied leave, with one taking 3 months unpaid leave. Seems like it's becoming a norm for working parents to do that. But like what verykiasu mentioned, it's nothing new. Just that it's becoming more widespread and common as parents up the ante for PSLE preparation.

Although I've no intention of taking leave to help my dd, hearing this kind of stressed me out.
Taking leave will not help much. It only gives them unnecessary stress,
which is bad. All revision should be completed by end of Aug.

I can understand how you feel. Not easy to keep cool or not to panic cos PSLE is near. Most schools set tough Prelim papers. That does not mean his PSLE will also getting borderline marks. Don't give up on him or he might give up on himself. He needs lot of encouragement and support from you. All the best to your son's coming PSLE.

My boy just had his LC today. His Prelim written papers only starts on 22nd Aug, which is after the PSLE Oral.

We parents can totally understand how the kids are feeling now. To give them a setback at this moment is really not a good thing. I have pre-empt my DD that prelims will be much more difficult than all her usual papers. At least I hope it will mentally prepared her, and not receiving a shock when she receive the results. She is sitting for her prelims next week. This week PSLE oral, next week prelims... should have some time off after all this for recharge again!

My dd has finished her Prelims. She was quite worried that she might not do well. I told her to focus on this week's PSLE Oral and that Prelims is just an indicative of how well prepared she is IF tomorrow is the actual PSLE.

Thus for those topics that she feels she needs to practice or concentrate more - now is the time to do so !

So good luck to all DC who are taking Prelims in the coming week or so.

                        Jia you ! :rahrah: :rahrah:

Best of luck to everyone also for Thursday and Friday PSLE Oral !
