249 plus 2 (HMT) . Nan Hua or Bukit Panjang Gov High ? Please advise. Thanks.

Nan Hua is a very good school, because it's stress level is just right and they have a wide range of CCAs.

I'm not so sure about Bukit Panjang, but my DD's friend went to the open house and has a good impression of the school.

Why don't you try Anderson Secondary too? It is suitable for those kids who want to study at their own pace. πŸ™‚

Anyone knows where we can get the COP for the past 3 years ?

Perhaps comparing the statistics for the past 3 years is a better & reliable guide

        Thanks

click the school, and you can find historical cop from 2006, 2007, 2008.

My guess for the COP of this year's posting is that most of the COP will go up (especially the top schools).

I will probably place my choices as follows :

If my preferred school that is \"realistically attainable\" has a COP that is less than my child's aggregate by more than 3 points, I will try my luck for a better school by putting the better school as my 1st choice. (Though I think the chance is not high) The \"realistic\" school shall be my 2nd choice.

If my \"realistic\" school's COP is 1 to 3 points below my child's aggregate, I will not take a chance and will put it as my 1st choice definitely.

Oh... may i ask then how many shd a child's Aggreg be higher than a school if it is to be for the 1st choice? Pls advise thanks.

          1-2 marks is more appropriate.

My daughter scored 253 for psle. I am trying to decide on the following schools: SCGS, River Valley High, MGS, Bukit Panjang Govt High and Nan Hua High. These are the comments from my friends on the schools:-

SCGS and MGS -Affiliated schools, academic standard not high
            MGS - snobbish kids
RVH- well run school, but new location so far in the west, may cause standard to drop?
BPGH - Well run school, but not prestigious, not exclusive school
NanHuaHigh- Very \"chinese\" culture, not suitable for kids from english-speaking homes?

Anyone can comment and advise? :?

Thanks likoko. We went to all 3 schools mentioned above today, all of us who went to Anderson dont like it. That's our personal point of view, nothing against the school.
St nic, Cedar and Crescent are too far and so we have shortlisted Nan Hua and Bukit Panjang. Nan Hua's COP has dropped from 249 to 247 to 244 and then 243 and they are not being consistent in achieving band 1 ranking. I'm not sure what could be the reason behind.
Nan hua is more of a chinese school and BPGH is niche in Science and Maths. Unable to decide.

My girl has the same score 249 + 2.
I am staying in the west.

                  These are my choices:-
                  1) RV
                  2) Nan Hua
                  3) BPGH
                  4) Commonwealth
                  5) Swiss Cottage
                  6) Clementi Town

                  Please advise.

Hi, The first 3 choices would most probably be the same. My daughter wanted RV so much that she cried when she received her results. Choice 2 would be most crucial as that will be the one they would be able to get in if rejected by RV. We are unable to decide between Nan Hua and BPGH. :?
Btw, why do you choose NH over BPGH ?
Do you happen to know is the PC tablet program for NH open to all students who are interested or only for selected students ?
                  Thanks !

I would think that the safety buffer depends on the COP of the school.

For schools with COP above 250 - minimum 3 points
                    For schools with COP 230 - 249 - minimum 2 points
                    For schools with COP 210 - 229 - minimum of 1 point
                    For the remainder, no need.

Just my guess based on my view on the \"effect of T-score\" caused by Math. Hope its of use.

                      Advice needed pls, 😒

Child has T-scole 258+2 -Which school should he go for ?

                      1) Dunman High -IP
                      2) Hwa chong Inst -IP
                      3) ACSI - IB (worry is that the school may not post child to IB as vacanies may be limited...)
                      4) RVHS COP -IP
                      5) NJC COP 260 - IP
                      6) SJI COP - O level

                      i) do u think we should choose IP over O level route?
                      for me - yes
ii) some schools offer school base gifted education programme, is it really important to choose such programme if child is from GEP ?
                      Of course
iii) does anyone know the no. of vacancies in each school ?
Call the schools to find out
iv) do we need to opt for all 6 choices?
I am not. I have only indicated 1 choice. πŸ˜„

                      Thank you in advance :?:

Thanks Fairy. To play safe, I will probably include 3 choices : HCI, RVHS (non-SBEG), ACSI. How would u rank these 3 ?

                      Thank you πŸ™‚

                        noob:

Hi Fairy, pls give me some advise? My girl's 1st choice is NJC (COP 259) but is in dilemma on her 2nd choice as she has to choose among SCGS, MGS and BPGH. Which is a better school? She doesn't mind NYGH but her score 259 + 3 HCL = 262, will she stand a chance?
There's frankly no harm in putting NYGH first imo. Posting is done first and foremost on T-score ranking (down to the decimals). The only chance that her ranking of the scores will affect her posting is when two students with the exact same scores (down to the decimals) have exactly the same choices. Not likely to happen.

In the event that she's unsuccessful, there's always appealing. I know of people who appealed in; as long as you can present yourself and speak well, it should be fine. OTOH, to make a strong appeal case, it would be advisable to select the school as the 1st choice.

MOE does calculate down to the decimals. My brother had 249, same as the COP for Anderson Sec back then. He didn't get in; was posted to his 2nd choice instead.

Some people have been asking about NYGH. For those interested, I posted my thoughts on my alma mater here: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5831&start=90

If anyone has queries on NYGH/ HCI, IP or whatever, feel free to PM me. πŸ˜„
