SAP schools, whether Pri or Sec level, have only Chinese students. It can be a good or not so good thing. SAP schs also offer Higher Chinese as a compulsory subject. Hence, more emphasis on Chinese and Chinese culture.

got other races lah.....they take CL / HCL too...eg Jim Roger's girls, some of the Japanese, Americans and Koreans are doing CL....just like anyone else

why are we so stereo type on language and ethnic group :?

No, Higher Chinese is not compulsory in SAP Schools. I’m from Maris Stella High, and there are only 2 classes of HCL students. Plus, 98% of the cohort are Chinese, with some Indians.

Thanks Janet but how about Pt no. 2, can a child going to non SAP school opt/teacher recommand for HCL during P4?

          TIA.
For non SAP schools, the school will recommend the child to take HCL if his/her overall results is good, including a band 1 in Chinese. Normally HCL is offer to the top few classes. The points gained from HCL can only be used for SAP Sec Schools. The child needs to get reasonable good T score (230 & above) to be qualified.

Not all SAP schools offer CL. Schools such as Hwa Chong, Dunman High & River Valley High, taking HCL is compulsory. Whereas, Maris Stella, Nan Chiau & Chung Cheng High offer both HCL & CL.

Oh you mean if non SAP school the social studies and health education will be taught in Englsh?

Interesting. Is there an Englsh option?

My dd is in a non-SAP school. I am very certain that her social studies is taught in English cos she has to do some SS projects in English this year. But I cannot remember if her health ed is taught in English or Chinese. I only recall that her recent sexual ed was in English this year.

Yes, social studies & health education are taught in English for all non SAP schools. I am not aware that these subjects are taught in Chinese in SAP schools.

There does seem to be some overlap with social studies which is taught in English.
