Parents, let's solve this problem for our kids

I think all parents want the best for their children. In essence, what you said above (in bold) would be very true.
Need to send to such expensive childcare?concern2:

Like what someone said in another thread, if it costs $1250 a month to have 1 child in preschool, multiply that for 12 months over 4 years, it would cost $60,000 a child for his preschool years. If you have 3 kids, it would be $180,000 without factoring in inflation.
Have I scared anyone away from having a third child?
I'd think the more children one has, the less each child gets in terms quality and quantity, unless the parents have unlimited resources (and attention) to spread out amongst the children. So based on our household income for instance, I may not want to have more kids as having more imply being able to give each child less.
Question: Are we giving too much to our children than they really need?
And so back to P1 registration, if there is priority for that coveted school xx, would anyone consider having a 3rd child?
Not for me, cos I do not covet for that coveted school

I am just quoting what a parent said in another thread (hopefully I remember the figure correctly, I just remember this figure $60,000...).
$1250? PCF kindy cost like $125/mth only mah.Busymom:
I will add one more: need to look into providing more quality infantcare and childcare at affordable price.

Luxury costs as matter of choice should not be passed to the govt.
Mebbe, reducing the kindy costs to maybe $25.. with subsidies for those who needs it.
That, I feel is fairer.
You may say whatever you like about the need for such expensive CC, but in reality, parents may do what concern2 mentioned in her post, which is don't have more children if having more children means being able to give less to each child. -

Then would priority for HDB flat help? -
concern2:
PDF or any other kindy, are not considered childcare ctr. But how about preschools :?
PCF isn't childcare.limlim:

I always thought preschool is another kind... Different from childcare ctr. To me, cc is more \"care\" (meals, shower, nap) than academic. Kindy = no care, maybe only snack. All academic.
How about preschool? Certainly it offers more academic stuff than cc? -
concern2:
That's true. If there is no one at home to look after the child, then PCF is not an option. Correct?

CC and kindy all can be considered as preschools.
CC combines both care and academic while kindy is pure academic.
That's how I will see it. -

Then would priority for HDB flat help?
For me, no, since I already have a flat. But if I have more kids, I will definitely need a bigger place, and having extra grant and priority in getting HDB flat if I apply using my 2nd chance will definitely get us (DH and I) discussing again. For new couples without HDB, they probably don't even have many chances to make babies if they do not have their own flat yet.
Also, having more than 2 kids will mean you need a bigger car since traveling around with kids on public transport is a nuisance (to others and to oneself
) and with car seat requirements, it is impossible to sit more than 3 passengers at the back of a saloon car. Perhaps grant in MPV and discount or NIL COE would also get us talking again.

I will give my 2 cents on this question since it is still related to the thread subject.

Question: Are we giving too much to our children than they really need?
its complicated. In general most parents give too much of what the child really does not need and too little of what the child really needs
Too much - academic pressure, even pressure to excel in the CCA activities, too many toys and clothes and gadgets and junk food ...
too little - of our time, values , entrust them with too little responsibilities, less trust in them to fall and pick up,
Children receive too little love - few families have a solid relation with extended family - the aunts and uncles and cousins , we cant substitute that with all our time and money.
Not that we love our children less but we have too many burdens on our shoulders and too much expectation of ourselves and our kids that it gets lost in translation
In short too much involvement in their lives than they need.
Again this is a general take, based on what i see around me and especially with me. -
Busymom:
If you ask me, personally, it won't make a difference if it is only priority in getting HDB, cos it is not like I have been trying to get another flat but can't.
