      sean wife:
      Hi,

For the memorisation of compo part, do u make the child write out the whole passage repeatedly or just read out the passage verbally and only practise the difficult words? Which is more productive? For my kids, their writing speed is still quite slow and writing out the passage can take like 20 mins each time...and they dont particularly enjoy the writing...Headache...
Memorising the whole paragraph may not be effective in the long run although they can visualise where the creative phrases were used. The kids tend to forget the long paragraphs after sometime. I will ask my DD to remember certain creative phrases rather than the whole paragraphs.

        hi HAPPYH and hquek,

is the difference between K2 and P1 - big or small, in terms of workload for a child to cope ? anything extra found in P1, absent in K2 ?

          Hi phtthp,

Sorry, my kid joined when he was P1, no clue about the K syllabus. Also, he’s ‘skipped’ levels so he won’t be a good gauge.

Teacher Joy also teaches in Singapore Post Branch on Sunday,

she has very loud and clear voice.
Teacher Martin is also another very impressive teacher which my elder DS like him a lot.

              Hi phtthp,

DS is under Teacher Joy - 2nd year already. I'm not sure if she goes to the other branches, but we're in the amk branch. Then again, DS had tried out other teachers when he had to go for make up class and his verdict was that they are all about the same (ie teaching style) - just that I personally feel some may be stricter in marking and others more relaxed.

I have seen the TAS books at popular but wonder if the upper primary material is any different. Can parent share what is being taught during class? Do they teach the kids to simply remember creative phrases or they encourage kids to have discussion. Do they write compo weekly?

If there is any parent who had experiences with mind stretcher, appreciate if you can share the pros and cons between the two. Thanks.

Based on my dd experience (p5) she joined Tas beginning t3, they learn by doing most if not all the components in her english paper2 during a typical lesson. Every lesson, she will tell me that she did grammar, cloze, s&t ..comprehension. Some weeks she will also do a compo in class within 40min. The wkly homework is to memorize some useful phrases for dictation n some vocab as spelling. My girl enjoy the class n I like the fact that all her works are mark within the same lesson n return.

Yes, and the teachers will make sure they marked all papers before the child leaves the class. The lesson may even extended to 2.5 hours... The only thing - they have a lot of books to bring, which my younger DS hates it. The materials are very good but it can be very stressful to a child to digest so many things each week :yikes: .

Thanks both for the feedback. I have always thought they focus on just writing and not other components. Good thing work is marked during the same lesson lesson 🙂
