Hi Maisy,


If you find your boy's bag too heavy, check with the form teachers.
Many times, the little boy is not very sure what to offload from their
bag, at the end, the bag gets heavier each day.

As per my understanding, in the beginning of the year, the teachers will collect all the files, workbooks, even the art drawing block, so usually your son have only exercise book and text books. The bag should not be very heavy.

One tips, don't buy a heavy and big bag. They will tends to load more.
just get a size just right for A4. Put a spare Recycle Bag, in case the school return them School files or some materials that may be too big for their bags.

Even my P4 DS also, he just worries he may forgets to bring his books,
he bring his one week text book to school, at then end the bag never
get light. My P6 DS, his school bag forever will be light, becos he pack his school bag.

Take it easy, you are not the only parents that face this problem.
Maybe you just have to guide them when your boy pack his school bag.

The recycled bag idea is a good suggestion- thanks for that!
Talking abt school bag, I have read conflicting reviews about the SPI bags (some say highly recommended; others say it is too heavy - i went to check out the bags over the weekend - yes they are indeed heavy on its own (empty w/o anything in it) )

One thing i noticed, SSS parents aren't very active in this forum - do they have a separate portal (say via the school's website) where they network & exchange notes?

Well, I also have no idea why this forum for STSS is not so popular.

Maybe the parents themselves already chatting a lot in school while waiting for their DS - :hi5:
I realised those recycle bags that you collected from Natas Fair,
and the bags from Charles and Keith (for handbags) are the right size for school files and art blocks. Since my DSs in P1, they will keep a spare recycle bag under their table, I mark them using Markers. Should they need a bag to bring their folders/files or extra worksheets home, they
can use their spare recycle bags instead of loading all in their school bags.

The schools are aware of the heavy school bags for many years, but if the DS does not pack their school bags according to time table, there is nothing the school can do. For the past 2 years, I know the form teachers will collect all the workbook and the Subject Files within the first 2 weeks when the new Term starts. The only text book for P1 and 2, will be Chinese, Maths and Social Study + exercise books and diary. Music and CME and all the rest of workbooks are kept in school, so your
DS should not have heavy school bags.

In the past, when there was PE, sometime they need to change back to School uniform. Good thing that since late last year, they have changed the practice.

Hi all mummies and daddies,

I’m writing to find out more about St Stephen Primary School. I’m planning to register my DS next year for 2014 intake under Phase2B. The reasons for choosing this school are:
1) It’s the nearest Catholic School (We live in Tampines)
2) It’s single session (suits us as we are both working)
3) Has Student Care within school
Now we have mixed feelings as friends/relatives are telling us not to choose this school as this school is ‘not good’…
We would like to find out what you think, what is good and bad about this school.

Thanks so much for the detailed insight!

Can i ask what is CME ?
Does it mean that during PE days now, the boys can wear PE attire to school and for the entire day?
Also, since you are so helpful , can i ask if it is necessary to buy SSS school socks or can just wear normal white socks ?
Last question (hahaha) .. On thursdays, are parents/ caregivers allowed to deliver lunch to school for the kids ? I don't really fancy the idea of my son eating canteen food for lunch (i mean once a day is fine eg during recess time but to have canteen food twice a day ..hmmm ... i guess i have this concern coz my son was born premature & has the build of a 4 yr old! so i believe in proper nutrition - i intend to give him homecooked lunch for P1 only - thereafter i think i will let him be as I also want him to experience a \"normal school life\" hahaha) - you think the school will allow that ?

I have this idea also because when i was in primary school, there was this classmate of mine who was very skinny (but she wasn't small like my son, she was just skinny). My school actually allowed the mother to bring formula milk from home + home cooked food for recess everyday for 2 years (for P1 & P2) for this girl. P3 onwards the girl was \"on her own\" and she grew up really nicely - i caught up with her before i got married. Still slim but much taller than me muahahahaha. Hence, I hope to be able to do the same for my son (not for recess, just lunch on thursdays only) - wonder if the Principal will allow such request

Hi Taurus75, like you I'm also considering enrolling my DS into St Stephen next year. We also qualify for phase 2B but I'm a bit concerned about distance cos' we live in Pasir Ris. I wonder how long the bus ride will be if we put him on the school bus.

Also trying to find out a bit more about the school but seems that they is very little feedback/review I can find online. I do have a friend whose son is in P2 this year, I guess she will be my best bet.
