      Hi all mummies and daddies,

I’m writing to find out more about St Stephen Primary School. I’m planning to register my DS next year for 2014 intake under Phase2B. The reasons for choosing this school are:
      1) It’s the nearest Catholic School (We live in Tampines)
      2) It’s single session (suits us as we are both working)
      3) Has Student Care within school
Now we have mixed feelings as friends/relatives are telling us not to choose this school as this school is ‘not good’…
We would like to find out what you think, what is good and bad about this school.
      Thanks in advance.

        THC:
        preciousmoments:

According to my colleague who has two girls born in February and December of the same year, MOE treats them as 2 separate applications, cannot be considered as a combined application like twins. They registered this year.

Why twin considered as one application? Cos they are registering for he same year. Such should apply to those that have children registering for the
same year, it will be against MOE principles if not.

        Taken from MOE website
For the purpose of balloting in the P1 Registration Exercise, siblings/twins/triplets of the same citizenship will be treated as one group. All the children will share the same ballot number. In this case, if the ballot number is picked, all the children will be admitted to the school.
If children of different month but in the same year are treated as 2 different ballot, then MOE is having double standard.

will check with MOE to clarify.

          one reason could be -
St Stephen overall academic standard is ... average.

2011 psle Quality pass English Maths Science Chinese
          St Stephen 56.1 %, 48.5 % 47.8 % 52.4 %

          compared with other schools:-

            Thanks phtthp for your reply!

Besides academic reason…how does St Stephen fare in other areas such as character building etc?

            TIA

below taken from St stephen’s …

              PSLE 2011
              Subject A*/A (SSS) A*/A (National) A*-C (SSS) A*-C (National)

              English 56.1% 44.3% 100.0% 97.7%
              Maths 48.5% 43.5% 89.8% 84.2%
              Science 47.8% 43.5% 94.4% 90.5%
              CL 52.4% 80.6% 85.4% 97.3%
              ML 61.5% 72.3% 100.0% 97.9%
              TL 66.7% 77.5% 100.0% 98.3%

              Number of DSA Candidates 2011
15 Pupils were awarded the DSA

imo…its a ok sch for a neighbouring school… they did well in all subjects except in Chinese which is below national standards…

                Thanks weyw for the stats!

Pardon my ignorance, how do I interpret
                Subject A*/A(SSS) A*…?
There’s a school within our 1km, which is East Spring Primary School. So if St Stephen is as good as a neighborhood school, should we just send DS to ESPS then St Stephen…or I should actually check the stats first…

Eh… I would still choose St Stephen’s. It has affiliation to both SJI and St Pat’s. Though SJI will be my main aim!

                      hi taurus75,

                      meiah is right !
between St Stephen and East Spring, choose … St Stephen better. Guide / motivate him work harder in Chinese, Maths. Target your son go SJI Sec, or other schools next time when he reach P6 (year 2019). eg: RI, HCI, ACSI, etc. 😄

                      East Spring
