Hi parents, how are the results of your child in P3 ? I am very much disturbed when I look at the worksheets my DS brings home, it used to be so different back in the 80s.
I cant even help my boy answer the questions and when we do, he brings them back with lots of corrections, Teacher says that the answer is right but it is marked wrong as its not answered the way they want it to be.
Whats going to happen in Primary 6 ? if the child constantly gets wrong, he or she may start hating the subject or feel demotivated.
What can we do ? I think the syllabus is so much different in international schools where they seem to enjoy school -
Hi, Looking for an explanation on the answer to the following question under ‘Systems’ :
Corrine put a sweet potato in the soil, watered it and waited for it to grow a new shoot. After a week, there was still no new shoot growing from the sweet potato, which of the following explains her observation?
A. She did not give enough water to the sweet potato.
B. The sweet potato is a root
C. The soil was not fertile enough
D There was insufficient sunlight
Answer: B
Appreciate it if you could help with the explanation.
Thanks -

Your daughter is correct. Breath the leaves of a fern, there are spore bags which contains spores, thus they reproduce by spores.[Moderator's note: Topics merged.]
I have 1 question here bcos my girl's insisted that her answer is right but its not the same as the answer from \"Old School Test paper.
(1) Mould & ferns reproduce by spores
(2) Mould reproduces by spores but fern reporoduces by seed
My girl's answer is (1) but the paper answer is (2)
She say non flowering plants reproduce by spore not seeds.

chixchix, I agree with you. I am surprised by some of the questions asked. I can help my daughter with a fair number of them, but others require her to have the kind of exposure to plants and animals that we city dwellers simply don’t have.

Hi!
Can someone share how to drill the child in the techniques of answering open-ended questions?
Thank you in advance. -
Hi Sunflower mummy, I don’t think drilling is the way to go. Guiding is much better.
Our children first need to understand what the question means? So we need to read through the questions with them, then ask the child what he/she think each phrase or sentence means. Let them think about it first, then if they give the wrong answer or don’t know, try to explain it in such a way that you don’t give them the answer, but guide them to getting the answer themselves.
This way, they can apply the same technique to other questions and hopefully be able to answer on their own. -

First, sweet potato has buds which could grow into a new shoot.I think that corrine did not create a environment to grow shoot from the sweet potato. Other than that, sweet potato is a root.Surf the internet and you will be able to find why sweet potato is a root
