Hi everyone
Planning my first trip to Perth for my family - us and our 5yo.
Mid Dec for 5nites. Since it will be our first time there and first
time ever doing self drive, we wish to keep it simple and EASY and not
packing in too much within a day.
I am a TOTAL novice at Free and Easy travel so kindly
advise and give sugguestions. Thank u.
Below is what I came out with after researching online and here
at this lovely forum
15 Dec (Sat) - 21 Dec (Fri) 5Nites
First Nite (Sat) - chk into Goodearth BandB
Day 1 (Sun): Perth City, Fremental wkend mkt, eat fish and chips at some nice place
Western Australia Maritime Museum (did i get the name rite? is this in Fremental?)
Stay the nite at Goodearth.
Day 2 (Mon): Caversham Wildlife Park and Chocolate Factory
Stay the nite and Goodearth.
Day 3 (Tues): Drive to Margaret River. Explore around and stay the nite at
Margaret River Hideaway.
Day 4 (Wed): Drive to Busselton. Explore around and stay the nite at
Bluebay Apts or Abbey Beach Apts
D5 (Thurs): Back in Perth, chk into Goodearth.
Lunch/Dinner at Chinatown
Stay the nite at Goodearth.
D6 (Fri - Departure day): Start the day early and make a quick trip to Rottnest? - too ambitious? Trying to get a late flight bk to Spore
Err..if I am driving from Perth city, will I reach Busselton first or MR first?

Busselton first, then MR.

There's nice scenary are Yallingup coastal area too - we chanced upon it when we got lost along the way
We did Mammoth Cave too (further down south from MR). With our 6 yr old and 2 yr old. My 2 yr old actually climbed the steps all by himself. Chose Mammoth Cave as it is apparently the only one in the MR region that has an area that allows strollers or wheelchairs (though for a short distance only) so we thought it will be doable if we just go take a look and short walk. In the end, we covered the entire route inside the cave. -

Are you concerned about getting food and groceries to stock up apartment once you reach? If so, avoid reaching late on Sat night as most shops will be closed. Or unless you know there are eateries around Goodearth that open till late.
Oops....i wrote so much today in the Perth forum.

Actually I booked direct with MR Hideaway. Was too lazy to scout around for comparison. After I submitted details and made reservations online, Julian replied me and provided me with more info and maps on the MR region.
Notice from your itinerary, you have a day at MR (MR Hideaway) and the following full day at Busselton. Actually from what I remember, the draw was the jetty which wont take a full day. Are you visiting any places there in particular? If not, consider stay 2 nights at MR region (MR Hideaway) and explore the area, and Busselton can be a stopover on the way from Perth (or back to Perth).
I also booked SQ air tickets direct....lazy to compare and check around

Which part of Nov are you travelling?
Dont want to dampen your planning, but just be aware that last year in Nov, there were bushfires in the MR region.

I am not sure if this is a yearly occurrence since I don't live in WA, but I recall news of the bushfires last year. As you plan, build in alternative plans and check terms and conditions (including cancellation / reimbursement policy) of the local tour operators and travel insurance.
About whale watching, best to check with the cruise operator/s if the time you are going coincides with the season where whales will pass through and can be sighted clearly. Some operators allow a return ride on another day (but as tourists, hard for us to squeeze in another half day to try again) if the first ride yield no sightings of whale.
Kings park - that's a nice place. We loved it so much, we went there 3 times in total. To visit the different playgrounds at \"Synergy Parkland\" and \"Lottery West Family Area\". And the night city view (from Fraser Ave, which is in the park) is great. There are parking lots along Fraser Ave. Synergy Parkland playground is dinosaur themed, and there's a playground in a little island that sits in the small lake. Lottery West Family Area has nice playgrounds too, suitable for younger kids, and the food at StickyBeaks Cafe there is good! -
Sunrise and sunset times in Perth (2012)

Useful for planning your daily schedule and driving times.
Outside the city area, best to avoid driving once sun sets as animals (eg kangaroos) are active from dusk and you certainly dont want to have to suddenly come face to face with one when driving. -
OIC, we are not driving, will it be very difficult to go to those playground in kings park?
