Hi, my boy is born 2008.

Just want to clear my confusion. I’m an ex student of Rulang Pri sch.
So my son will definitely get in is it? That is phase 2A2 right?

      Thanks.

Should I register as Alumni to ensure my chances are higher? Or don’t need to?

Based on past trend, yes to both questions. However, if in the year of registration for your child, applicants > vacancies balloting kicks in.

        Thanks.

Based on current system, alumni who joined the alumni association is ahead of other ex-students.

in view of recent balloting statistics / results for 2013 P1 intake, if you want peace of mind -
wiser to join (Phase 2A1 + be an ACTIVE alumni member)

when you're active, (Rulang Principal knows you personally + you are aware of what's going on (recent events taking place in your school) - so that you're well faciliated to guide your child in all aspects of Education matter, even before your child start Primary 1)

if you're sleeping, (Rulang Principal doesn't know you at all + you're not kept in the loop of recent \"current affairs\" / events happening in your school)

My feeling was the same as yours and I was contemplating to move <1km just to grant for balloting and the chance is little. I cldn’t believe why being a catholic and we have to go thru such a pain to get God’s child into a catholic sch. So, I decided to call up the school. I’m more relieve now and I drop the idea of moving house after talking to the choice of schools.

Call up the school of your choice to find out more…

Church member no guarantee too at phase 2B, unless u are within 1km?
U meant u checked Catholic school so long u are catholic, kid can entre regardless distance?

Nope: being catholic doesn’t mean one can enter the choice catholic sch regardless of distance:( it really depends on which catholic school of choice)

What would u do when u hv a situation like this:

              2B >2km must ballot
              2C <1km must ballot

If you are talking about the same sch, you may want to move nearer to the sch.

If you are talking about different schs, there are some considerations. You have to state how far is your current home from the 2 schs and your preference.

I won't choose either. Will pick others. But if left with no choice, no harm trying for 2B first. If fail, then consider 2C very carefully.

I guess I might need to register for alumni then..

                      To: MR06 and Meiah,

Thanks for your views. It’s two different schs for my options: as catholic, I wld want my ds who is catholic to attend mission sch but not academically focused. Under 2B, I can choose another sch to avoid balloting but will be far though. Under 2C, it’s popular neighborhood sch but balloting inside 1km is a risk to take. You r right, shd try 2B first and if failed then still got the option for 2C. In order not to make ds travel too far to sch, I hv to relocate for good I suppose. Never thought I need to do that until I started monitoring this yr’s registration. Am certainly not one who just choose the sch because it’s popular or w high PSLE results, I believe an overall balance environment is more important and ds doesnt need to stress in the important 6 yrs of growing up. Life as adult is stressful enough so I do not want to deprive him of some carefree yrs at his tender age.

Don’t worry. You’re welcome. Like you, I also went for 2B for my ds though it’s further. The nearer 1km sch needed balloting then. Once we got a place in 2B, we shifted to right beside the sch. But no regrets. It’s a good catholic sch and we are all happy.
